The band feature Fates Warning guitarist Frank Aresti and Shadows Fall drummer Jason Bittner. Rounding out the line-up is vocalist Marc Lopes and bassist Ed Lanouette. They’re inspired by the likes of Metallica, Exodus and Megadeth. Lots of headbanging fury coupled with melodic vocals and fired up guitar solos.

Says Aresti of Dark Day Sunday’s plans: “I want to take this band on the road, across the world. I want to continue making and recording music as long as we can. And judging how all four of us love doing this, that’s going to be a long time”.

The Dutch band started in 1989, quickly establishing themselves as alt. rockers with darkly psychedelic undertones. They released eight studio albums with original singer Anneke van Giersbergen, before she left in late 2007. She was by Norwegian Silje Wergeland in time for 2009’s The West Pole. She joins Rene Rutten (guitar/flute), Frank Boeijen (keyboards), Marjolein Kooijman (bass) and Hans Rutten (drums).

The foursome are al alt. rock band from London. However, they began in Norwich in 2002, before relocating.A seven-track mini album titled Widows was released 2005, introducing Sennen to the world. Debut album Where The Light Gets In followed in 08, with Age Of Denial coming out two years later.

Now they’re back with Lost Harmony, which is due out through Indelabel in April. This is preceded by the single Vultures, out on March 5. The quartet – Larry Holmes (guitar/keyboards/vocals), Rich Kelleway (guitar/vocals), James Brown (drums/keyboards) and Tim Kelleway (bass) – play The Barfly in London on March 8.

The Londoners started out in 2008 with the release of the EP We Drink Blood. Since then they’ve become renowned for touring with an impressive stage show, which includes aviator uniforms, swords, daggers, and the sacrifice of at least one band member at every show.

Born in Wales, Sayce has been based in Canada since he was two years old. Growing up on the music of Eric Clapton, Ry Cooder and Dire Straits, his own guitar playing style has been majorly influenced by Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

He started playing in Toronto clubs at the age of 16, quickly gaining a big local following. Moving to LA, he briefly teamed up with Uncle Kracker, before joining Melissa Etheridge’s band for the 2004 album Lucky. Subsequently he’s appeared on five Etheridge releases, as well as playing with her on the Oscar winning song I Need To Wake Up, from the 2006 Al Gore documentary An Inconvenient Truth.

In 2009, he released his debut album Peace Machine, following it the following year with Innerevolution, and in 2011 out came Ruby Electric. He’s also supported both ZZ Top and Deep Purple.

His fourth album, Steamroller, comes out through Provogue Records, with tour dates to follow.

The band features former Dio guitarist Rowan Robertson, Armored Saint guitarist Jeff Duncan (also on lead vocals), with his brothers Matt Duncan on bass and Shawn Duncan on drums.

Says Robertson on how he came to join the band: “Jeff and I met when a local promoter named Happenin’ Harry asked us both to be in his backing back for a few shows in the LA area and in Chicago. When we got back to LA he just flat out asked if I wanted to join DC4 and we got along so well and played so great together that I just had to do it.”

Electric Ministry is the band’s third album, and their first since signing to Metal Blade. It has guest appearances from Guns N’ Roses keyboard player Dizzy Reed and Armored Saint drummer Gonzo.

The style is classic American hard rock, with real drive and power. It’s the sort of music that mixes Dio and Armored Saint influences.

The four-piece started in 1999 under the name of Fallout. But things never took off at that juncture and the band soon split up.  However, in 2005, guitarist Peter Degenfeld-Schonburg  revived the band, and started work on a concept album called The Old Man & The Spirit, collaborating with keyboard player Christopher Tarnow.

Since then, the current line-up has slowly been put together, featuring vocalists Herbie Langhans and Dilenya Mar, keyboard player/guitarist Simon Oberender, bassist Dominik Stotzem and drummer Fabian Maier.

Now at last the album is ready. The storyline is about the relationship between human awareness which comes with frailty, and infinite spiritual wisdom which is lacking in emotion.

The American band were started in 2004 by guitarist/vocalist Ethan Miller as a on offshoot by psych band Comets On Fire. Working closely with famed producer Rick Rubin, the music soon began to take shape. It was a mix of The Faces, Crosby, Stills & Nash and The Damned.

The band – also featuring Isaiah Miller (guitar/vocals), Joel Robinow (keyboards/guitar/vocals), Cyrus Cornisky (bass) and Raj Ojha (drums) – release their third album The Russian Wilds through Agitated Records on March 12. This was produced by Tim Green.

Says Miller: “There was a point when we were really trying to blend Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Ladyland, Steely Dan’s Gaucho and Bruce Springsteen’s Darkness On The Edge of Town. I love the Boss’ singing where he’s just blowing out his voice, even when it’s just a pop ballad moment. And we were inspired by some of the grooves and close mic stuff on Gaucho, and by how Electric Ladyland runs the gamut from super long jams to blues numbers to drifting psychedelic pieces. There’s a sense of audacity to these records – a band chasing down strong, invisible connections – and there’s moments like that on our record. We didn’t always do the smartest or safest things.”

Regarded as one of the top metal bands in Europe, they were formed in 1997 by one-time Gamma Ray vocalist Ralf Scheepers and bassist/vocalist Mat Sinner. Since then they’ve put out eight studio albums. The ninth is Unbreakable, put out by Frontiers.

Says Sinner, who also produced it: “After touring for two years without breaks, the guys realized the fan favourites very well and we wrote an untamed, powerful and crushing album together”.

Scheepers adds: “The plan was to record an album for the fans with rough metal riffs, screaming vocals and good melodies …… and finally it became a monster – a tough ‘bang-your-head’ metal album called Unbreakable”.

Joining the founder-members are guitarists Magnus Karlsson (who also plays keyboards) and Alex Beyrodt, plus drummer Randy Black. The result is a formidable Primal album that goes back to basics, while taking them forward.
