It’s 2011, folks (just in case you missed all the whizz bang a few days ago), and what better way to welcome in the new year than with the latest issue of Classic Rock, which is on sale even as you read this.
Today – January 4 – marks the 25th anniversary of the death of the late, great Phil Lynott.
Robin George is one of those figures in rock history who can claim to have worked with some of the biggest names around. But when it came to his own career, it was a case of right man, wrong place. Or was it wrong man, right place? Whatever, all’s explained below. All the previous Cult Heroes are here.

We’ve got a right old collection this week. Germans covering NWOBHM obscurities. Germans revamping albums into box sets. Germans on DVD…oh, and some bands who aren’t German at all.
In this era, when bands are so careful about choosing their name, it’s interesting to look back at some of the names which have been shared over the years. Some almost inherited their name from a previous band. In other instances, one was forced to change!
Thin Lizzy have now officially confirmed their new line-up – and it includes a member of Def Leppard.
This year’s Vibe For Philo, an annual tribute to the late Phil Lynott, happens at the Button Factory in Dublin on January 4.
