Louise Mensch, who is a Conservative member of Parliament, is lobbying for the guitar legend to get this honour.

Writing on her Twitter account, she says: “Clearly there is nobody more worthy of a knighthood and I am glad to say I have gathered support from every major record label in the UK.”

Mensch is married to Metallica/Red Hot Chili Peppers manager Peter Mensch, who once also managed Page, but she denies this has anything to do with her campaign.

Page was made an OBE in 2005 for his charitable work.

Jansch is regarded as one of the most influential and important guitarists of all time. The likes of Jimmy Page, Mike Oldfield, Neil Young and Donovan have all cited him as being hugely influential.

A founding member of Pentangle, he was a major figure in the revival of folk music in the 1960s. He also worked both as a solo artist and with many others. His last solo album, Black Swan, came out in 2006.

Gene Simmons is to host this year’s Classic Rock Roll Of Honour. And the musician to be given the coveted Living Legend award has also been revealed. Who is it? Read on…

Jeff Beck will follow in the footsteps of such greats as Jimmy Page, Lemmy, Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop and Ozzy Osbourne in being recipient of this honour.

Says Beck: “The Classic Rock Roll Of Honour has always been about great music that inspires and excites others. To be named as a ‘Living Legend’ amongst so many fantastic musicians is an honour. When I was a 6 year old boy I heard Les Paul’s ‘How High the Moon’ over the radio and from that moment on I knew that I wanted to play the guitar and make music. That moment has led me to where I am today. Rock music continues to evolve and its great how established acts inspire the upcoming bands and vice versa, producing more and more great music. I am proud to be a small part of this”.

Simmons will host the event at The Roundhouse in London on Wednesday, November 9. And he’s clearly looking forward to it.

“On that momentous occasion, the planets will align, living legends will gather to honour their own and London will become the centre of the rock & roll universe. It’s one thing being a voracious and loyal reader of Classic Rock, but it’s another to be in the same room as the people who have inspired me to stop flipping burgers and jump up on stage and have a go at it myself.”

Don’t forget you can vote right now in the following categories:

Best New Band

Album Of The Year

Reissue Of The Year

Film/DVD Of The Year

Band Of The Year

This is curated and conceptualised by the great man himself – and one of the most interesting features is called On This Day.

This is a daily diary of events spanning his entire career. It will include footage, audio clips, unseen photos, plus previously unreleased tracks, demos and home recordings. There will also be personal anecdotes. But be warned: each entry will be up for just 24 hours and then will permanently removed. There’s to be no archiving.

Future plans also include an overview of Jimmy Page’s huge back catalogue, including personal critiques by the man himself, and an online shop retailing collectable and limited-edition items such as high-quality fine-art prints signed by both Page and the relevant photographer, plus exciting and exclusive musical releases.

Says Page: “I’ve had the domain name for a number of years. I’ve just been sitting on it and a number of people had made approaches about setting something up and it got to a point that it felt it was the right time to put the website together.”

You can access the website at www.jimmypage.com

Jimmy Page joined the Black Crowes on stage in London last night (Wednesday, July 13).

The guitar legend came on during the band’s sold-out show at Shepherd’s Bush Empire to play Shake Your Money Maker. And here’s the proof.

Page and the Crowes are old friends, of course. They did two shows together in October 1999, and these were recorded for the 2000 album Live At The Greek.

Classic Rock’s Neil Jeffries was standing sideways at the gig holding a Box Brownie. Check out Neil’s pic (and his take on the evening’s events) below.

Led Zeppelin legend Jimmy Page brought the house down at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on Wednesday night when he reunited with the Black Crowes for their encore.

The appearance of Page, now 67, dressed all in black with his white hair tied back in a short ponytail, drew an emotional roar of recognition from the already well-satisfied Empire crowd who had just seen the Crowes play two sets approaching three hours at what was their last UK appearance before going on hiatus.

As the crowd surged closer to the front and a forest of cameras and phones were raised to record the event, JP, chewing determinedly, took his place in front of Steve Gorman’s drumkit.

Then, shouldering a sunburst Gibson Les Paul, he and the band romped through a high-energy cover of the Elmore James classic Shake Your Money Maker, made famous by Fleetwood Mac on their 1968 debut album.

The song was also one of the few non-Zeppelin songs to feature on the 1999 Live At The Greek album recorded by Page and the band after a two-night stint at the famous LA theatre.

Shake Your Money Maker was, of course, also used as the title for the Crowes’ debut album back in 1990.

– Neil Jeffries

Born Terence Harris, he got the nickname ‘Jet’ because of his prowess as a sprinter. He joined The Drifters, who were Cliff Richard’s backing band, in 1959, and it was he who suggested their name change to The Shadows.

Harris let the band three years later, due to personal problems. He topped the UK singles chart in 1963 with Diamonds, a song he recorded with Shadows drummer Tony Meehan; Jimmy Page played guitar on this.

By 1967, Harris had given up music, despite briefly being a member of the Jeff Beck Group. He subsequently had jobs as a labourer, bus conductor and porter. Suffering from alcoholism and depression, he got the MBE in 2010. But has spent the last two years battling throat cancer.

Steven Tyler has spoken for the first time about auditioning for Led Zeppelin.

Talking to Howard Stern, the Aerosmith frontman said: “I spoke to Jimmy Page’s manager, Peter Mensch, who’s been a good friend of mine forever. He said Robert (Plant) wouldn’t play with them again, and would I want to come over and jam with the guys? I went over and played. (But when) it came time for (Jimmy) to say, ‘You want to write a record with me?’ I went, ‘No’. I’m in Aerosmith. He’s in the biggest band in the world and I’m in a band like that. I have such an allegiance to my band and I love it so much”.

This all happened after Zeppelin’s celebrated performance at the O2 Arena in London on December 10 2007.

In the meantime, Tyler has also launched a new website at http://www.steventyler.com/

Van Halen come over to the UK and play at a major festival.

Mike Portnoy returns to Dream Theater, although not before they release an album with a different drummer.

Saint Jude, Virginmarys and Touchstone head a British global rock assault, as we once again lead the world.

Ritchie Blackmore decides to put Rainbow back on the road, with Joe Lynn Turner as vocalist.

There’s talk of Slash and Axl settling their differences, but no reunion of the classic Guns N’ Roses line-up

Sales of rock and metal albums go up, as other genres continue to suffer.

Slade get back together one last time, and do a farewell show.

Dave Mustaine, David Ellefson, Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield get together for a one-off studio project.

The Rolling Stones announce their 50th anniversary tour.

Jimmy Page finally returns to action with a solo album. Or at least thinks about doing one.
