Zakk Wylde Claims Aerosmith Are “As Phoney As Britney Spears”
Zakk Wylde has laid into Aerosmith and professional songwriters in an interview with Gibson guitars.
We love Zakk Wylde basically because he writes huge fucking riffs and has a no-bullshit approach to life and here, he’s taking no prisoners with Aerosmith.
“I laugh when I go into a music store and there’s a title called How To Write Songs,” says Wylde. “You can’t teach someone how to write a song.”
“Angus Young didn’t need books to learn to write Hells Bells. The musicians I grew up on and loved – like Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix – it’s their names on their songs. That’s the beauty of buying a record by a real artist.”
“Appetite for Destruction was written by Guns n’Roses, not some weak-asses like those lame songwriters on Aerosmith. Aerosmith wrote great songs like Dream On and Back in the Saddle when they were on booze and drugs.”
“Next thing you know, they get sober and bring songwriters in, and then it’s the most watered-down shit. If you can’t write songs you’re as phoney as Britney Spears. You don’t have any business making records.”

I agree with Zakk, not just in R’n'R either, but in any music. A real band has to have the ability to not only play their own instruments, but be able to write their own songs too. Steven Tyler may just as well be doing Karaoke!!

Zakk is right. Those 70’s ’smith records are god like and ever since they got clean and sober and started working with song doctors like Desmond Child and whoever the albums haved sucked balls. Angel, Crazy, Amazing Just Push Play? What is this crap? But what do I know, those are some of their most popular tunes. SELLOUTS. I hope their new album fails, I like how they go with Brendan O’Brein, could it be because of what he did for AC/DC? NEWSFLASH, Aerosmith aint no AC/DC. Aerosmith sucks. ‘Nuff said.

where have you been? what about Janie’s Got A Gun?-(Possibly the best work Steven has ever written), Love In An Elevator? or Monkey On My Back? and so what if they did bring in other people to help?
The main thing people always seem to forget when they are too opinionated is that the music makes other people feel GOOD! and it gives people the chance to express themselves or their emotions-especially if they cannot play an instrument themselves-isn’t that the main thing?
and one last point-
STEVEN TYLER DOES NOT LIP SYNC (as people say Britney has done)-YES HE’S THAT GOOD. So don’t you Dare compare Talented Musicians with her.

any so called rock band that has to bring in dianne warren( celine dion,jade 2009 euro entry with lloyd wanger)to write their biggest chart hit ( dont mean a thing) really has got questionable values.
come on aerosmith lost it ages ago and their last proper album was eons ago with rocks( draw the line and pump weren,t bad but but still shallow and too poppy)

He’s right on the money with those comments but yet what is Zakk Wylde famous for apart from being Ozzy’s right hand guitarist, fronts his own decent (but rarerly make us jump to the heavens) rock band and playing over indulgent guitar solo’s live on stage.
Why give this asshole coverage? What has he achieved? Rocks and Toys are classic records. Vacation and Pump are near classic. Okay the rest vary in standards – but every clasic rock band has made below par records i.e. AC/DC , Guns, etc.
They are still a classic live act. What can you say about this guy – he’s a good guitarist – there’s plenty of them around.

Like they say….opinions are like assholes….everyone has one,including me…..Zakk makes a valid point in that Aerosmiths older recordings had some balls whereas most of the newer stuff sucks ass, but having said that he really should keep his opinions to himself unless they have to do with Ozzy or his own band BLS because you can’t argue with the sales and success that Aerosmith has enjoyed in recent years.They both have fans so good luck too both!
