Wrathchild Vs. Wrathchild: Seconds Out, Round Three!
The war over the rights to the name ‘Wrathchild’ has been stepped up.
To briefly recap: bassist Marc Angel and drummer Eddie Star claimed recently that they have now trademarked the name, and own all the rights. This is being disputed by vocalist Rocky Shades. But Shades himself has just been dropped from the bill by the promoters of Hard Rock Hell III, as a direct result of this ongoing conflict.
With us so far? Okay, here’s the latest statement from Rockin’ Rocky:
“As of today our lawyers have filed a claim to invalidate the trademark they [Angel and Star] have registered. This will stop them from illegitimately claiming any exclusive rights to the name ‘Wrathchild’ or using a ‘TM’. They will also be receiving a letter from our lawyers in the next few days informing them about this.
“Now this will become a big legal battle, as we have invested heavily into it to make sure we have the best people on our side. What they have done will hit them in the face harder then it has done to us. As we have put in a claim to invalidate their trademark, they no longer have the exclusive right to continue using the name ‘Wrathchild’.
“We will be known after all this is sorted, as ‘Rocky Shades’ Wrathchild’, and this name is being trade marked as we speak. The great thing about the new name is:
1. It is going to let the fans know who they are seeing [the man that has and will always be Wrathchild].
2. As this is Rocky Shades’ name, the trademark rights will be rock solid.
“All we have left to say is ‘The Bizz Still Suxx’ and some people suck more! Watch out for further episodes in the soap opera that’s gripping the nation – well, Wrathchild fans anyway!”
