Who Should Sing For Anthrax (No. 3): Belladonna’s The Man
We’ve already heard the case for Neil Turbin. We’ve also presented the argument for John Bush. Now, we hear from Mike Mercury why it’s gotta be Joey Belladonna upfront for Anthrax…Christ! What’s going on here? Joe Belladonna’s back in Anthrax – and some people just feel the need to knock the poor fella. Why? Because he was so bad that Anthrax flopped when he was in the band. Gawd, look at the rubbish they recorded with him – what utter trip, eh? Yeah. Right.
So, we’ve had Malcolm Dome going on about how brilliant Neil Turbin was. Sorry, Neil, who? A singer so great, he’s had unbroken success since he and Anthrax waved a tearful farewell over 25 years ago. Tearful my arse. I doubt they’ve given the sap a second thought. And most Anthrax don’t ever recall him being in the band. Let’s face it, he’s probably behind Xavier Russell in the queue to join Anthrax. And talking of Xavier…
Yeah, John Bush. Did a decent job taking over from Belladonna nearly 20 years ago. Good voice. But what did the band actually do while he was there. Slipped and slid down the chute towards obscurity. Record sales plunged and the fan base disappeared as fast as Scott Ian’s hair. Not a pretty sight. So why would Anthrax want him back? Do you think they breathed a sigh of relief when Bush told them he couldn’t ‘commit’ to what the band needed? Bet you if Belladonna had said last year he was up for being involved, then Bush’s phone would have remained as silent as a brick wall in a vacuum.
No, let’s be honest here. Only one man can front this lot, and his name ain’t Neil Turbin. Nor is it John Bush. And here are the five reasons why Belladonna’s the man for the job:
- He was the voice on all the songs Anthrax fans care about.
- He’s easily a better singer than Turbin or Bush.
- He was the man at the microphone when the band meant something.
- We won’t have to listen to the turgid, whining nonsense Anthrax did with Bush.
- The band have made their choice.
So , that’s it. Game, set and light that match, burn those totally unconvincing arguments for the others. It was always a one-side debate anyway. Just to prove the point…
