Didn’t realise there was film of the band with Vai. Should be an interesting package. (ooer, missus)!!
hehehe!!! I remember taping over my poor mams prat shop boys cassette with this when it was live on radio 1!!! know it word for word! cant wait to see it after all these years!!! “WHAT DOES THE BBC NOT WANT US TO SAY????”
Brilliant!
I was there, and I hope that they recorded the ‘BORING’ chant which half the crowd chanted as the drum solo dragged on and on for what seemed like half an hour
)
I was there and I don’t think it was Whitesnakes greatest moment. Aerosmith should have headlined that day, I saw a hell of a lot of people leaving after their set. This was back when Aerosmith were at the top of their game.
I was there and it wasn’t Whitesnakes greatest moment, not a patch on 83. Aeromith should have headlined, they were at the top of their game, I saw a lot of people leaving when their set finished!
No…I don’t like at all
I hate the boring playing of Vai and the band is not as tight as the last incarnation of Whitesnake.
Their last record is BY FAR better than many of the songs included on this dvd (and cd)
Not only were Aerosmith far better on the day, but so were Thunder. Whitesnake that day were all lights, noise and Steve Vai. It was a time when Sir David of Coverdale was taking himself way too seriously so it all came across as being very po-faced. So quite why they chose that performance is a mystery. I also remember that Tommy Aldridge drum solo that went on for days. Given how great they were in the early days and how good they have become once again as a live act in recent years, it seems an odd decision. Oh well
Why oh why would they release this tripe! I can still remember the headline from the Kerrang review ‘is this the end of whitesnake’. Actually I lie it wasn’t the headline it was the front cover, don’t think sir David has ever recovered properly from this debacle.
look forward to this ,snake at their best
My friends and I joked about that bloody drum solo for years. How to kill a festival atmosphere in 15 minutes. Aerosmith were fantastic that day (with Jimmy Page on Train Kept A Rollin’) Thunder were brilliant too. Can’t recall who else played that day? Were Poison on?
I was there that day and also in 1983 which was my first Donington. The highlight of the 1990 day was when Jimmy Page jammed on ‘Train kept a rollin’ with Aerosmith. I have enjoyed seeing the different ‘Snake line ups over the years and will look forward to seeing them in June.
Aerosmiths sound sucked on the day, only highlight was when Jimmy Page turned up,Whitesnake were amazing, and im no fan of Vai,but he produced it live thats for sure.
Thank god I’ve seen them recently. This was a poor headlining performance – Vai was a mistake and Coverdale took himself too seriously (then it was just after the 80s!) Mr Coverdale deserves his recent success – he has toured everyones home town over the last few years!
They were better when they supported ACDC in 81 with the classic line up 83 wasgood with cozy powell who always did a fab drum solo but they were passed their best. In1990 the highlight was steve vai’s solo spot but yes aerosmith did blow them away I was ther for all three so there.
Pity there was no dvd of the Live in the Heart of the City album, by far their best period before the image became more important than the music.
Meanwhile, if you want to get some big fat awesome guitar playing, Mr Doug Aldrich is doing a “guitar clinic” in Brighton on 11th March, THAT will be rocking ! About the dvd… can’t remember anything good from this tour. Aldridge is a mystery to me, I’ve seen him with Pat Travers in 78, then Whitesnake, ozzy, and thin lizzy in 07, trust me that daylong boring solo has been the same for three decades
sorry the guitar clinic is on 11th APRIL not march. at Komedia in Brighton
I remember how depressed I was listening to this live on Radio 1. What had happened to David’s voice? I have just checked out Slip of The Tongue and Judgement Day from that performance on You Tube and I don’t feel any different. Tragic. No comparison to the silky smooth voice of yore. Have to say though that I remember both guitar solos as being absolutely stunning. I do actually quite like the SOTT album – some of it is bloody excellent. But Donington ‘90 was not a good day for the band. Fortunately they did recover from it (live and in the studio), but the signs of strain on the voice was loud and shreikingly clear on the last tour. Let’s hope David is all better again now.
I didn’t make it to Donnington until 2007, better late than never! What always put me off in my formative years (early/mid ’90s), was that it was too much distance & hassle for ONE day, ONE stage, & a handfull of bands! Thankfully, I discovered Reading! Still, as a brat, I listened to some of those old M.O.R.s “back in the day” on Radio 1. Im intrested in Doningtnn’s before my time. I may get this latest release from Lord Coverversion of Redcar!
