Coverdale still a party animal…
Whitesnake guitarist Doug Aldrich insists David Coverdale is still a party animal – even though they’ve toned down their behaviour on tour.
And he’s revealed the secret behind the pair’s successful songwriting partnership is that they both focus on what’s best for the music.
Asked if Coverdale is planning to celebrate the 35th anniversary of debut Whitesnake album Trouble this year, Aldrich tells Geeks Of Doom: “Man, David celebrates every day!
“It’s fun to hang with him because he’s bigger than life, and always in party mode. I would say we have some cool ideas for the tour, and he’s the best MC in the biz.”
But he adds: “Whitesnake is a very intense show and we all need to be taking care of ourselves and staying healthy on the road.”
For that reason they tend not to write material while travelling, although they’ll often stumble on ideas while jamming.
“Being on tour makes it hard to focus on full-stop composing,” says Aldrich. “We focus on the show and get serious about songs off the road.”
And he adds that when the time comes to sit down with Coverdale, he still finds the experience “completely natural and inspiring.
“We have an unspoken trust that the other wants everything that’s best for the song and the band.”
Whitesnake recently welcomed back drummer Tommy Aldridge for a third stint after Brian Tichy decided to concentrate on his new band, SUN.
