Watch Out For…Achilla
Every so often we’ll mark your card about an exciting young band whom you might wish to check out. Let’s start with Achilla.
A lot of people have been the tipping London-based band for big things. Now, they finally have the line-up in place to do justice to a rapidly growing musical individuality and vision. Joining long-time tocrchbearers Martamaria (vocals) and Daniele Panza (guitar) are keyboard player Gonzalo Carrera, bassist Gus Macrocostas and drummer Vincenzo Infusino.
The quintet’s performance at The Gaff in North London on November 6 was nothing short of mighty. The astonishing vocal range of Martamaria and fluid guitar chops from Panza are already well known in the capital, but the three new members have brought another dimension to the music.
This is where Kate Bush might well be if you can imagine her style fused with Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Curved Air. But it’s a lot more contemporary that this might sound. Only onstage for 35 minutes tonight, the amalgam of Italian, Hungarian, Spanish and Greek talents holds the audience spellbound.
An album is currently being planned. Songs like Your Face and Arashi could easily make it one of the debut records of 2010.
