How in the hell is Journey getting in the top ten in there (not that I don ‘t love Journey) and Sonisphere isn’t?! I was there and I can tell you, it was the greatest 3 days of my life. Everyone there that had been to this years Download made it clear that it had far surpassed D’load in every way.
Where are Bad Co in event or band of the year??
Tough call between KISS and Alice In Chains for best album. Black Gives Way To Blue and Sonic Boom were both so good! I ended up voting for AIC but wasn’t an easy decision.
Who comes up with these lists. Iron Maiden is not out until Monday, so who’s heard it yet?
The dates need to be defined. Is it July 2009 to July 2010?
And why should we have to choose from the list you supplied?
Alter Bridge should have been there!
WORK OF ART and W.E.T. are BY FAR the best new bands
Even though The Gaslight Anthem aren’t classic rock, they still rock like they are. Best modern band, I highly recommend checking them out. They’re a band for everyone
er…… where are Airbourne???
Buckcherry & STP’s new albums should have been in the best albums catagory for me… They’re my 1 & 2 this year.
Iron Maiden album of the year? Its not even out yet.
Aerosmith band of the year? For two shows, one festival show and one show (in London again) which cost £100 per ticket. Unless it was for the is Steve in or out pantomine?
Needs more Alter Bridge.
Why is Sonisphere not up in the event of the year? It was total dynamite! Best experience and was better than download!
And Iron Maiden should be in for Band of the year, not New album yet!
The customary ‘Legend’ award MUST go to Ronnie James Dio and surely will!
Best album? I’m voting for Cheat the Gallows.
Aerosmith for Band of the Year!!!! They are the best thing that has happened in Music!!
Aerosmith for the Band of the Year award!!! Aerosmith are the greatest thing to happen in Music!!
CLASSIC SHITE JUST LIKE THE MAG..
Why is there always a list to choose from. This excludes lots of bands who could have a chance.
It’s like Radio 1 with a playlist. If you are not on the list your don’t get played.
I like Stratovarius, Wig Wam and Dream Evil. They will never get a chance without publicity.
NO! Wheres my Airbourne? give bands like that a chance classic rock mag!! come on!! tbh you really need to take a look at your magazine and realise that you need a lot more modern “Classic” rock music coverage and less of bands that are over 40 years old mott the hoople reunion…Ian hunter is 70 and the Sex pistols are selling perfume and butter I think You should move on to a new generation…oh yeah you spelt Taking Dawn wrong you said “taking down” on the website
Where the hell is Tom Petty on these ballots?
Gaslight Anthem .. Best Band .. EVER
Sweet, Cheap Trick!
TAKING DAWN!!!
they are amazing! were fantastic live with airbourne, heavy and loud with KISS and blew download crowds and rocked up the metal hammer after show.
TAKING DAWN deserve best new band!
WHY IS RECKLESS LOVE UP FOR BEST NEW BAND?? They are terrible. I know. I live in Finland. They are constantly on the radio. THEY SUCK (and I even like Def Lepp – aka what Reckless Love are aiming for and missing).
Yeah God damn it. Why the hell isn’t the Big Four one of the biggest events of the year up there?
Regardless though I still think the Heaven and Hell tribute in High Voltage wins, but still, the Big Four at sonisphere deserve a nomination
I went to go vote online and the last page will not let the voter scroll down, let alone the other questions barely let you see the “continue” button.
Hurry and fix it so I can vote for Sonic Boom and anything else KISS is nominated for. By the way? The only people who cared about Mott the Hoople are Def Lep.
Aeromisth is the biggest JOKE around. Co’mon a bunch of wanna be Rolling Stones. Aerosmoth and their fans SUCK!
You mention UFO, but still they don’t get nominated. Their Bristol gig last year was the best show I’ve seen since Schenker got his act together in ‘08. Phil Mogg’s voice is one of the best ever in rock. Sorry to moan.
Ok.. Been into classic rock since 1971. So alot has happend since then and about 99% of the those great bands aren’t with us anymore. I loved Led Zepplein but those days are gone. So what does that leave us??? KISS, Van Halen, and Aerosmith. Basically those are four of the biggest names still working the rock scene. With that said Aerosmith’s studio effort (8 out of 10) are good efforts. Did we all know that the Aerosmith “Rock” & ” Get Your Wings” CD had ghost palyers on them? I seen Aerosmith 4 times in my life and everytime they sucked live. Van Halen. OMG When EVH hit the scene everything changed, but that was then and I went to see them during the 2007 tour. It was insulting to watch a band that became unwrapped has the night set in. EVH “please STOP!” please stop RIPPING OFF VH fans. The concert was the worst I ever seen musicaly. EVH leave the memory in tack and walk away from the business. AEROSMITH You lost your edge. SO that leaves us KISS. Ok Ok Two of the orginal band memebers are with the current band, but when you think about it The Who, Bon Jovi Van Halen, QUEEN etc had memember s replaced for various reasons. Sure KISS has been milking things for awhile but with the addtion of the “Sonic Boom” CD KISS IS SHOWNING ALL THAT THEY ARE STILL AROUND! I do love all of these bands music but for my $ KISS is the better show and guess what the music sounds perfct. I seen them over teo dozen times since 1973 and I never seen them not give a proffesional show for your money. If you think I’m kidding go to any U tube posting of the above bands latest concert efforts. God Bless America and Keep Rocking & Rolling people.
Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’ entering the top ten.
The Best AOR Band Than Ever
chickenfoot is a great band. no nominations.
Best new band category is a travesty1 Where are Falling Red? Where are Fury UK? Where are Voodoo Johnson? Where are the bands that are out there gigging constantly. Why wasn’t the brilliant Dave Evans Tour in the Events section. Album of the year is Snew’s : We Do What We Want! Remove the lists and let’s have a proper vote next year, Thanks
On the best new band it says talking down…is that meant to be taking dawn? I’d vote taking dawn best you band
AC/DC BEST BAND!!
AND AC/DC´s Backtracks Best Reissue of the Year!!!
Lets be honest, its all wank. What this does is justify an even for the awards and shit load of promo to assist back sales.
Frankly Aerosmith need to be taken to one side and gently euthanised. That pile of shite they presented at Download should have been at Las Vegas. I got so bored, me and my mate buggered off and saw Michael Munro. What a fuckin eye opener he was. Fun and games.
Also, Ac/Dc . Is this really pushing the envelope? They wer fun, and only that, at Download and I think booze and company were contributors there. I agree with Liam for christ’s sake move on. Bloody hell Classic Prog is more forward looking that Classic Rock! (Actually its all in the name really isnt it!!).
Any rant over. Oh wait aminute no its not. Now the fucki’ Scorpions a swithering about knocking it on the head. Piss Off. I smell a “drum up the sales” manouevre. Gits
I have no just noticed that quell suprise, ‘Zep are on the cover of Classic Rock. Must have run out of Guns and Rose shite.
Oh and another thing get you own fucking stories and stop rebranding Blabbermouth.net stuff
MODERATOR’S NOTE: Thanks for all your helpful comments, Mr Deek.
Taking Dawn definitely best new band, blew KIss off stage and will soon be headling over here
Aerosmith -best Band? 2 shows and one of them over priced-I don’t think so
and for best album-Iron Maiden ?- It wasn’t even released when this poll came out-who comes up with this shit, If Maiden got their ass across the pond and actually played in the U.K I might vote for them, 2 shows in 2 years is not good enough for a home grown band.
Lynyrd Skynyd get my vote- Rock n Roll hall of fame says it all.
Not sure I like the list….. There’s loads of new bands out there that deserve to be above the ones here, yeah like Voodoo Johnson…
I know this isn’t a forum but Hang On A Minute!! Mr Sour seems to have forgotten that all the BEST Classic Rock bands came out of the UK and quite a few are still going strong and playing as well as ever, Uriah Heep, Pink Floyd, UFO, Nazareth, even Deep Purple!! (I’m sure you can all think of a few more!) So lets not get all “Fox News” about Mr Simmons and his mates!! Oh yes, nearly forgot – Wasn’t there a band called ELP at a rather good 2 day event in London’s Victoria Park this year?!! We’ll keep rockin’ mate – don’t you worry!!
…PANIC ROOM for Best New Band!!! They rock. http://www.myspace.com/panicroomuk
really wanted to see the VIRGINMARYS in the best new band. everyone must check them out
I’d like some free tickets to the party please!!
Steve Hackett gets nominated for for album of the year for one of the poorest albums of his solo career! Go figure!
Where is RAMMSTEIN???????????????
Cheap Trick: The Latest – Album of the year!!!
Album of the Year: Kiss: Sonic Boom
Band of the Year: AC/DC
Event of the Year: Rage Against The Machine’s Christmas number one and free concert
Reissue of the Year: Rolling Stones: Exile On Main St
To all those whinging about these awards and critising Classic Rock Magazine: go forth and multiply and stick to rags like NME or Q magazine.
Now can I get a free ticket to the party, please?
DEF Cheap Trick! Love it!
Go KISS – they deserve any award they can get ! ! !
The Latest from Cheap Trick is a great album…maybe their best!
Why isn”t foreigner up for best band of the year! What”s up with that? !!!!!!!!
Forigner should be voted best album of the year!!!!!
i cant believe Dream Theater didn’t get a mention in band of the year or album of the year
keep on my gods of guitar Jimi Hendrix be a Legend…
I like Steve´s Hackett out of the Tunnel´s Mouth Work…
Why consider it a poor production? Only time will tell. Listen and Enjoy
go bon jovi….best band out there!!!
Bon Jovi for Band of the year not that i don’t like the rest but they rock
Tangent: Really? Out of the Tunnel’s Mouth is Steve’s best material to date. This album does not have one bad song at all. You should be thankful that Steve is still pleasing our ears and making our senses tingle with delight to new tunes.
About damn time Steve got some admiration for being one of the best guitarists in the world!
My vote is for my album of the year, Steve Hackett – Out of the Tunnel’s Mouth!
So, Tangent, you expect way too much. Judging from your name you probably don’t even listen to the band, The Tangent, since Roine Stolt left.
Steve Hackett is the only genuine guitarist with an innovative forward thinking mind, a pure artist, everybody else is doing what we have all heard a million times before with maybe a few tiny tweaks here and there, which is ok if that’s the way your mind works.
Judging from the previous comments, especially at the start, it would appear that everybody has their own ‘missing’ band/event/album etc. etc., just to have a moan like everybody else I think Endgame by Megadeth should have been Album of the Year, but the point is we are all going to have something to moan about!
A fairer way to run this would be just to have everybody vote for what they like next to each category, from such a date to such a date in the year and then the one with the most votes would win!
Or is this too easy?
If Classic Rock is as impartial and a voice for its readership then this should surely be a no-brainer.
I look forward to the first Classic Rock Readers awards show next year!
I see you left Ted Nugent out of all catorgories so the rest of these bands/artist would have a chance at whatever pigeon hole you placed them in. Whack’em and stack’em. Long Live Ted
Mott The Hoople Reunion october 2009.
Best Event they didn’t play togheter since 1974, and the original line up since 1972
cheers
AC/DC are band of the year, slash’s album is albumof the year and taking Dawn best new band
Steve Hackett has always maintained a high quality standard in his art, yet he’s been underrated way too often for reasons one can barely comprehend.
‘Out of the Tunnel’s Mouth’ is a magnificent trip that takes us along exciting places in the musical world, casting a magical spell on everyone who cares to extend his listening pleasure beyond a limited timespan, regardless of one’s cultural background.
A big vote for Steve!
I’ve got to echo what everyone else has said about Steve Hackett & ‘Out of the Tunnel’s Mouth’ – brilliant!
I was a bit surprised by the new band list – other than seeing The Union at HV and having a free download of a White Willow track, none of this lot have registered with me.
We get the odd token Prog act thworn in there – lets hope that Prog Mag has it’s own awards.
Of the stuff on the list – the Bigelf album definitely impressed me most, but then I listened to their previous one, Hex, which is an utter clasic.
High Voltage was a great new festival. My fave festival Rockinbeerfest may have suffered a bit with HV using the same wide audience base. Seeing ELP and the Dio tribute were sufficiant to make this my choice this year. Let’s see who is on the bill for each next year.
Keep up the good work, CR. I’ve been a subscriber from day one… We need continued coverage of the old bands and we need to hear the new boys who have taken hold of the mantle.
hackett…simply the best
>You mention UFO, but still they don’t get nominated. Their Bristol gig last year was the best show I’ve seen since Schenker got his act together in ‘08.<
Huh? Sorry to break it to ya, mate, but Schenker ain't in UFO. Vinnie Moore has been their lead guitarist for like seven or eight years now.
There’s some great bands listed here, but for my money, purely because of his hard work, determination and dedication to top class performances over many years… it has to be Steve Hackett. Out of the tunnels mouth, is the latest of his works, all of which, in my opinion, have been superb! None Hacketteers should give this a listen.
what is the release date etc.. for these thins
some albums have been out over a year others just released?
best work this year(alice in chains album came out last year!)is slash’s head and shoulders above “bullet for my valentine’s effort-fever,but where are they?
Steve Hackett deserves this award for many great music through the years. It ´s very good album
go steveeeeeeeeeeee!! great feelingggggggggg
))
great guitar-man!!!….
steve hacket is the best, great album. go steve
EUROPE-LAST LOOK AT EDEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Europe – Last Look at Eden!!!!!!
Steve Hackett’s Out the Tunnel’s Mouth. It’s a great album with close, personal production and an eclectic range of superlative music. It has a strong sense of personal vision too, which has grown more eloquent over the years.
love journey
kiss sonic boom definetly the best cd of the yr acdc rehash not , cheap trick not, i love cheap trick but like acdc black ice waste of time kiss is the best show band too by far but like the stones say its only rock and roll
One word

I hope Steve Hackett win for the best album of the year.
It’s one of my best album this year. Just wonderfull.
Steve Hackett latest is one of the best Lp of the year.
Would love to see Steve Hackett’s OOTTM take it for best album. Masterful work. He’s been cranking out albums for years, and since the late 90s he has gradually re-awakened the dormant prog monster that somehow managed to survive the techno-pop of the 80s.
Stephen Dale Petit’s album, “The Crave” should be there?!?! Probably the biggest artist to emerge properly this year! I mean he just played with Ronnie Wood + Mick Taylor at the 100 club!? It does not get much bigger than the Rolling Stones?!!!!! The album is amazing, bringing blues back into the limelight and as a live performer, he’s incredible!!
Steve Hackett’s last album is great ! A “chef d’oeuvre” !
Steve Hackett has been 1 of rocks best for 40 years..FORTY FRICKING YEARS!!! hes in the same class as david gilmour, jimi hendrix, frank marino, jimmy page & others. his Live Rails 2cd is great.
VOTE FOR OOTTM…….
The Best Album: Sonic Boom (KISS) & Forevermore(Whitesnake).
Band of the Year: KISS and Whitesnake.
Reissue of the Year: AC/DC – Backtracks
