Velvet Revolver seek to appoint ‘unknown’ Irish frontman
A rumour has reached Classic Rock that the singer Velvet Revolver are seeking to recruit to replace Scott Weiland is Irishman Phil Conalane from Million Dollar Reload.
Conalane was apparently recommended to Velvet Revolver by ex-Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler, and also by Stone Gods, the band formed from the ashes of The Darkness.
Stone Gods reportedly tried to recruit Conalane themselves when Justin Hawkins left The Darkness.
Classic Rock’s source, who claims to be in contact with an insider at Velvet Revolver’s management, tells us:
“Though a surprising choice, Phil is experienced but relatively unknown on the international stage, which would fit Velvet Revolver’s bill of fresh blood as they try to rebuild their career following the disappointing sales of their last album, Libertad, and the GN’R return that has left them reeling.
“Phil is also well known as a good songwriter, something that scuppered Velvet Revolver’s plans when previously they tried to bring in the less-than-prolific Josh Todd of Buckcherry.
“At the recent Classic Rock Awards in London, Slash was seen talking to Phil’s record company representative for quite a while.”
Of course, we realise this might just be a crafty publicity stunt by Million Dollar Reload. More on this news as soon as we have it…
Meanwhile, you can check out Conalane’s vocals on Million Dollar Reload’s MySpace site here.

If Velvet Revolver wants a relative unknown who would be a great fit for their sound, they should try to get Syrym vocalist Jeffrey Winslow. He can sing and definitely has an out-of-the-box sound when compared with the usual slag of generic-sounding rock frontmen. I think it would be a homerun of a pick, but they likely don’t have the balls to do it. Check him out on their website – http://www.syrym.com
just checked them out. sounds a bit like bon scott. with him on vox velvet revolver cood b very very good

Finnish newspapers speculates new singer might be Mike Monroe from Hanoi Rocks.
Yeah, I am from Finland as well and you should know and think about it a little but more! Because those “news” are ONLY from Finnish yellow papers which one are rumours from internet wev pages (Finland)… So people (Finns) talking about that on the internet. After that Ilta-Sanomat talks “there are some rumours…”
If VR want an unknown then they are going even further downwards, although think this is this guy and his band trying to pull one last rabbit from thehat before they join the history of the unknowns who never quite made it. To be honest it seems to me like they are tring to plug their myspace as they have had their album floating about two odd years and it hasn’t gone anywhere and sounds like def leppard b-sides or even stuff def-leppard disowned.
I wonder dows Joey realise these guys have copied the DL sound, heck maybe even copied some of the DL songs. Looks like a spent force to me to be honest, nothing of the same calibre of VR
MILLION REVOLVER RELOAD!!! I say mash the 2 bands together n have a good ol fashioned megagroup like the new GNR – about 10-15 band members never hurt anyone…
Is the above poster serious??? Ive been to M$Rs myspace and they sound nothing like Def Leppard!!! M$R are pure quailty and their singer rocks! `petite doc` sounds very bitter towards M$R , makes me think you are an ex-member or something? Anyways, dont apply for any music related jobs `petite doc`, you obviously know nothing about music!!. lol.Hope he gets the VR gig. Scott was crap!
The reason behind VR’s less than expected success is summarized in their lack of creativity. They are all phenomenal in playing their instruments but they are not as bright in the songwriting domain. They need a singer who covers the liability.
Chinese Democracy on the other hand sounds as GNR as GNR can be in the rythm domain.
Wish these guys were still together but well as fans we just enjoy their music.
