Van Halen On Hold Until Wolfgang Graduates
Yup, you read that correctly.
Van Halen have already mentioned that they want to record a new album but this is being put on ice for the time-being while 17 year old bassist Wolfgang Van Halen graduates from high-school.
Making more positive noises about making a brand new Van Halen album, Eddie Van Halen said to Hustler magazine: “We’re just waiting for the right time. I took Wolfie out of school for a whole year to do the tour. It was just a bad time because the 11th grade is the year when they prep you for college.”
“First he graduates, then we’ll sit down, give Dave (Lee Roth) a call and see if he feels like whooping and hollering a little bit. I’ve got a ton of music.”
Not that the legendary shredder is finding this situation easy with Eddie adding: “Just a few weeks ago I almost yanked him out of school. But I do want him to graduate. The thing is, he already has a profession and a career that he’s successful, talented and gifted at.”
Oh yeah… and Wolfie turns 18 soon, on March 16 in fact. That likely means he will graduate this coming summer.
Eddie also told Hustler he was so out of practice when Van Halen started their last tour, Wolfgang had to help him perform his own rock classics.
Eddie said: “He showed me a thing or two. Like when we were rehearsing for the tour, I hadn’t played some of the songs in almost 25 years, so I had to relearn the shit.
“I’d start playing and Wolfgang would say: ‘Dad, you’re playing it wrong.’
“I’m going: ‘Shit, of all people to kick my ass, it’s my own son.’”
