Tyler Versus Aerosmith: It’s Getting Bloody
Estranged Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler may resort to the courtroom to prevent the band appointing a new singer.
According to Billboard.com, Tyler’s attorney Skip Miller fired off a letter to Aerosmith manager Howard Kaufman last week, requesting that Aerosmith’s management “immediately cease and desist from engaging in acts and conduct to the harm and detriment of your own client, Aerosmith, and our client who is one of its members”.
In other words: stop approaching other top rock singers and asking them if they would like to replace Tyler as Aero-frontman.
“Steven Tyler does not want lawsuits,” said Miller. “We do not want to go in that direction. The direction we want is Aerosmith, with Steven Tyler, touring in Europe, touring Latin America, releasing a new album… This is the direction it’s all intended to go.
“It’s just amazing to me current management would be taking any other position.”
On behalf of Tyler, Miller has called a meeting of Aerosmith’s “shareholders” on February 9 to discuss the band’s future.
Aerosmith’s management declined comment.
Last week Classic Rock was first with the news about guitarist Joe Perry’s quest for a new Aerosmith singer.

Either tour with Steve or call it a day and do something else.
Good to hear Steve’s fighting back. Perry claims Tyler’s behaviour is the reason for the band falling apart but Steven seems the only member who can spot the obvious reality that a Tyler-less Aerosmith is NEVER going to work!
This is the most sensible thing that anyone has said about it so far. You’re all grown men, sort it out and get Aerosmith back in the studio and on tour.
Wish they would just shut up. they are destroying their own legacy
what breaks my heart in this whole situation is I feel they are becoming like Guns N roses. Axl doesn’t talk or have anything to do with his old bandmates. The others have tried contacting Axl and nothing.
i understand the other members what to celebrate their 40th anniversary. And they should do something. But i feel this is going to end badly. and that is really sad.
I somehow doubt that it’s as simple as this. Either you agree with four sober musicians who haven’t released any new music in over 10 years; or a man who checked himself into rehab, then was seen performing Kareoke in A BAR, and who needs multiple surgeries that will keep him immobile for over a year.
Although I admit the four of them touring another singer as Aerosmith may be ridiculous, I don’t see how Steven’s unavailability should stop them from working. They should call themselves Toys in the Attic, and go out with someone else- even if only to show Tyler that he can’t keep messing them around.
Who cares they are well passed their sell by date
Take a leaf out of the Scorps’ book!
Tyler is Aerosmith, eiher we like it or not. Bringing in a new singer, it will not be Aerosmith.
It’s a real shame it’s got to this – with 80% of the band wanting to record and play, but with the sole irreplaceable member (let’s face it – Rock in a Hard Place without Joe and Brad ias actually a good album), it’s just not going to happen. Desperately sad to say it – but it’s over.
Time to call it a day. The music has been pretty average for a number of years now. The only reason they would keep going is the money, which they surely have enough of by now. The best thing would be to show some respect for what they have acheived and end it.
bye bye Aerosmith..it has been an awesome ride….pity after 26 years of being a fan i never got to see you live…nearly did, i flew to New York but Tyler’s exit stage right trick blew that one!!!!!
I can’t imagine a band without it’s original frontman.
I mean Maiden without Paul Dianno, it’ll never last. Thanks god Rod Evans still fronts Purple. Van Halen won’t go on without Lee Roth surely. Sabbath are finished now they’ve kicked Ozzy out.
No-one is irreplaceable.
O God I hope they work this out. I’m a young teenager who hasn’t had the privledge of seeing them live! Please continue to play together so I can fullfill my lifelong dreams of meeting the band and seeing them live if only 1 time! :,(
