Track Of The Day: The Valles Flying Machine

One for the psych-rock fans, today we bring you two completely free tracks from Texas hotshots The Valles Flying Machine.

Classic Rock’s Geoff Barton reports:

The great and gratifying thing about working for Classic Rock is that sometimes mind-blowing CDs from unsung bands just plummet into your lap, right out of the blue.

This was most certainly the case with The Valles Flying Machine.

Last week we received a package from the abovementioned Lone Star State-based combo, accompanied by the following missive:

“Hello! We are The Valles Flying Machine. We are a three-brother band from Brownsville, Texas – a power trio, if you will.

“Our latest album, ready for imminent release, is mixed and engineered by world-famous producer Roy Z (Judas Priest, Rob Halford solo, Bruce Dickinson solo, Yngwie Malmsteen… and recently The Valles Flying Machine).

“Please listen to our songs and see if they are fitting for your roster of artists, as we would like to press this album and tour it with your help and guidance.”

Sheesh, how could we resist? We duly checked out The Valles Flying Machine’s 12-song CD… and we’re delighted to report… it’s awesome!

It’s a terrific, tripped- and toked-out mix of psych rock and classic rock. Or, as guitarist Texas Joe Valles explains: “We are from the Tex Mex border, born and raised on a ranch outside Brownsville, blessed and steeped in the folklore of the Rio Grande river all our lives!”

Which explains the background to one of the band’s songs, Highway 281, which is about ‘La Llorona’, a Mexican crying lady who steals souls along the Rio Grande. It’s from a story that’s over 200 years old, and her ghost apparently haunts Highway 281 in South Texas. Sound tempting enough for y’all?

The two (count ’em: not one… but TWO!) Valles Flying Machine tracks we’ve got for FREE download are called Aeroplane and Ignition.

“Aeroplane has Beatles-lyric influences and shades of psych rock, stoner rock and space rock,” Texas Joe explains. “There’s some tricky guitars in there, too!

“Ignition is extreme psych rock,” he adds, “with elements of Krautrock, space rock and trance in a classic space-rock vibe.”

Texas Joe was mighty pleased when he heard The Valles Flying Machine were going to be featured on our Track Of The Day:

“Muchas gracias amigo for all the good vibes on our CD and a big thank you to all the staff at Classic Rock magazine for the thumbs-up on our music,” he said.

“For your good news me and the brothers Eloy (drums) and Noe (bass) would love to throw down a giant BBQ here in South Texas on the border and invite all the local bandidos and Rositas to a huge Fandango/Pachanga in your honour!”

Y’know, this could be the start of a beautiful friendship…
