Track Of The Day: Triumph
Arena rock superstars, Canadians Triumph have just released a CD/DVD package called Greatest Hits Remixed. The title says it all, and they provide the latest Track Of The Day. Check out all Tracks Of The Day.Triumph started out in Toronto in the mid-1970s, with the trio of Rik Emmett (guitar/vocals), Mike Levine (bass) and Gil Moore (drums/vocals). Between 1976 and 1978, they release nine studio albums, most of which were very successful in Canada and America, where they were major headliners.
Unfortunately, they scarcely made it over to the UK, doing one tour in 1980 and appearing at the Heavy Metal Holocaust festival at Port Vale Football Club the next year. One of Triumph’s biggest moments came when they appeared at the US Festival in San Bernardino, California in 1983, on a bill alongside the likes of Van Halen, Judas Priest, Ozzy and Motley Crue.
Emmett quit in 1988, and although the band tried to carry on, eventually they split up in 1993. But in 2008, the band surprised everyone by reuniting to play Sweden Rock; a ’surprise’ because Emmett had constantly refused to rejoin Triumph, the band being inducted into the Canadian Music Hall Of Fame later that year.

So … Any chance of bringing them over to the High Voltage festival??
Nice to see Triumph getting a bit of coverage. Just a Game, Progressions of Power and especially Allied Forces were great albums back in the day but, despite a kind of hybrid Rush/Kiss light and stage show they could never quite deliver live. Suffered a bit over here as a result of the poor reviews they got from the Port Vale gig which was perhaps not the right place to start for them and they were on in the afternoon so no light show to back up the sound.
I remember them being referred to by the venerable Deaf Geoff Barton as “the Titans of techno flash” or the “Ontario tower of power” around the time of Allied Forces in a big Sounds article.
