Track of The Day: Tortoise
Our third free track of the day is a prog-jazz cop show theme from the former pioneers of ‘post-rock’. Click here for previous Tracks Of The Day.
Credited (or maybe that should be discredited) as one of the founders of the post-rock movement, the 90s indie movement that, according to critic Simon Reynolds, used “rock instrumentation for non-rock purposes, using guitars as facilitators of timbre and textures rather than riffs and power chords,” today Tortoise would fit many people’s definitition of prog.
Next month sees the release their sixth studio album on 22nd June. Entitled Beacons of Ancestorship, it is their first full length of new material in five years.
As a taster of this new record, here is a FREE DOWNLOAD of the track Prepare your Coffin – a song that sounds like the soundtrack to a 70s cop show; a funky, jazzy, proggy instrumental from a band still looking to push boundaries.
