Track Of The Day: The Pineapple Thief
The Thief have been going for a little under ten years, during which time they’ve released seven albums, toured the world, and took their name from an obscure American film. Now, The Pineapple Thief provide our Track Of The Day. Check out other Tracks Of The Day at www.classicrockmagazine.com/tags/track-of-the-day
Started in 1999 by guitarist/vocalist Bruce Soord, this was initially just a solo project. But the response to the band’s modern progressive and melodic approach (often compared to Sigur Ros and Radiohead) over three albums (for Cyclops Records) led to Soord bringing in a full band, featuring Jon Sykes (bass), Wayne Higgins (guitars), Matt O’Leary (keyboards) and Keith Harrison (drums).
During the next couple of years, the band’s stock continued to rise, with the release of 10 Stories Down (2005) and Little Man (2006). During this period, both O’Leary and Higgins left, with Steve Kitch taking over from the former. And, after one more album for Cyclops (2007’s What We Have Sown), the Thief stole a march on many of their rivals by signing to Kscope.
