Track Of The Day: The Murder Of My Sweet
The Murder Of My Sweet was a 1940s film noir, full of trickery, one-liners and a femme fatale. The 21st Century version is a band from Sweden, full of musical trickery, clever lyrics and… a femme fatale. It’s goth rock with a melodic twist and some nicely poised symphonic moments. Classic Rock’s new Track Of The Day proves the point. For all our recent Tracks Of The Day, go here.
The Murder Of My Sweet were started by producer/drummer Daniel Flores and, after a few false dawns, he found Angelica Rylin, who has a well-stacked… voice! The rest of the line-up features guitarist Daniel Palmqvist, bassist Johan Niemann and keyboard player Andreas Lindahl.
Debut album Divanity (we assume it has something to do with the divinity of divas?) proves that they have the ability to take personal experiences and turn these into universal songs, full of edge and attitude. Plus a real attention to the need for massive hooks. It’s not that far removed from Delain – but it still very much its own beast.
Typical of this is Bleed My Dry, which is all about being individual and doing what the hell you wanna do, when you wanna do it, and how you wanna do it.
Look, don’t take our word for it. Download the song for free here.

Might it be more likely that “Divanity” refers to “Divine Vanity?” Maybe a “Dichotomous Vanity?”
