Track Of The Day: Tankard
They’ve been on the scene for 27 years. They’re German and they play thrash metal. Meet Tankard, a band who write songs about such diverse subjects as beer, beer and… well, beer! Suitable, then, for our latest Track Of The Day. Check out all the recent Tracks Of The Day here.
Forming in 1982, Tankard released debut album Zombie Attack in 1986. Since then, another 13 studio albums, one live record and a live DVD have belched their way on to the scene, each glorifying the delights of libating. Not that we’d encourage such behaviour!
The latest release is Thirsty, full of romping, rampant riffs for which the band are justly famous, as well as a biting sense of humour.
Amazingly, here are Germans who do seem to understand how to press the laughter button. And also have something of a line-up consistency, which has certainly helped to generate a cohesion. In fact, vocalist Andreas Geremia and bassist Frank Thorwarth started the band, while Olaf Zissel has been behind the bar… erm, drum kit for 20 years. Even newest member Andy Gutjahr (guitar) has clocked in over a decade’s service.
