Track Of The Day: Sack Trick
One of the wackiest bands around, Sack Trick are celebrating the nine-and-a-half year anniversary of the album Penguins On The Moon by reissuing it. So, it seems only fitting we join in the festivities by the making the title song our Track Of The Day.
For those of you who have no clue about Sack Trick, think of Pink Floyd meets King Crimson with a daub of Muse. OK, finishing thinking about that? Right now on to Sack Trick. To call them a comedy band is a little unfair, but they do have a riotous sense of humour, as well as a lengthy list of top musicians who’ve been associated with them down the years.
There’s current Tank bassist Chris Dale (who really puts the ‘ack’ in Sack Trick – or something), former Bruce Dickinson/Robbie Williams (!) bassist Alex Dickson, GMT drummer Robin Guy, ex-Killing Joke drummer Ben Calvert, Twin Zero guitarist Reuben Gotto, ex-FM/UFO keyboard player Jem Davis and one-time Wildhearts guitarist Jef Streatfield.
On top of this, almost literally hundreds of others have been associated with Sack Trick, in one former or another. From Bruce Dickinson to Skunk Anansie guitarist Ace, The Almighty guitarist Pete Friesen and Antiproduct mastermind Alex Kane.
Over the last ten years they’ve released three albums. Apart from 2000’s Penguins On The Moon, there’s also (Music From) The Mystery Rabbits (1999) and Sheep In Kiss Make-Up (2005). So, what do they sound like? It’s Monty Python’s take on Kiss, OK?
