Track Of The Day: Rob Zombie

Rob Zombie is back. With his first album since 2006’s Educated Horses. And we’re delighted to say he’s provided Classic Rock’s latest Track Of The Day. Check out recent Tracks Of The Day here.

Titled Hellbilly Deluxe 2: Noble Jackals, Penny Dreadfuls And The Systematic Dehumanization Of Cool, this is the fourth solo record from the man who made his name with White Zombie, and the follow up to 1998’s Hellbilly Deluxe.

Says the man about playing songs from the album on tour in America recently:

“What I’m discovering is that the songs we have been playing from the new album are connecting in an amazing way, considering that most of the audience doesn’t know the songs.

“There are certain songs that if you didn’t know anything about us and you just came to the show, from the crowd reaction you would assume that was an old favourite we were playing. Sometimes you play new songs and people think, ‘Maybe I’ll like it later’, but people are digging it now, which is nice.”

In a change from his way of working in the past, this time Rob Zombie has used the same band in the studio and on tour, namely guitarist John 5, bassist Piggy D and drummer Tommy Clufetos:

“Maybe now I’ve gotten spoiled, but the guys I’ve got in the band can really think fast on their feet. We don’t really ‘jam,’ because jamming seems like you meander through lots of nonsense. We come up with an idea in the morning, by lunch the song is done, and by dinnertime we’ve already left and it’s put to bed.”

With his unique pulp fiction and B-movie approach to music, Zombie is still setting standards, ones he’s also been using in his other life, as director of such horror films as Halloween, House Of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects.

The album’s release is now scheduled for February 1, but you can grab the song Burn for free from 4pm GMT today (December 17) at www.roadrunnerrecords.co.uk. Better be quick, though, because this will only be available for 24 hours!

(If you go to the Roadrunner site now, you can get a free track from Cradle Of Filth – not that we would recommend you do such a thing.)
