Track Of The Day: Need
Need are from Greece, heavily inspired by Pantera, and they decided to turn this influence into a tribute song for the late Dimebag Darrell. Called Nuckles n’ Dimes, it’s the latest Track Of The Day. Check out all our recent Tracks Of The Day here.
Need started out in 2003, but at that time didn’t appear to have any direction or purpose. However, with a total overhaul – only guitarist Ravaya remaining from the original line-up – they finally got some momentum going. With Jon V (vocals), K.K. (bass) and Pete (drums) joining Ravaya, they released debut album The Wisdom Machine through Burning Star Records in 2006.
They’ve just issued second album, Siamese God, on the Rock Hard/Venerate Industries label, mixing prog, grunge and nu metal. Some have favourably compared them to both Nevermore and Pantera. Now, they’ve taken their connection with the latter a stage further. Here’s what they have to say about Nickles n’ Dimes:
“Pantera have always been one of our favourite bands and although we never met Dimebag in person, his loss came as a huge shock to us, as it did to the rest of the world.
“A few months after his passing, we decided to write a song as a tribute to him and Pantera, for all the great feelings and inspiration their music has offered throughout the years. The name of the song was Nickles n’ Dimes. We finished the song in the summer of 2005 and we have been closing all our live shows with it ever since.
“However we never had the chance to record it properly so we decided that it was about time. Nickles n’ Dimes was recorded live at the Soundflakes Studios during the recording sessions for our second album Siamese God. It was mastered at West West Side Music Studios in new York by Alan Douches.
“It’s the least we could do as a band to honour Dimebag’s memory.”
