Track Of The Day: Micki Free
Micki Free is playing a one-off show in London on April 16. He provides the latest Track Of The Day. Check out all the past Tracks Of The Day here.
Discovered by Kiss’ Gene Simmons, Free has established a top-notch reputation as a rock and blues solo artist, as well as working with a whole string of top names – including Prince, Janet Jackson, Wendy O. Williams, Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Billy Gibbons and Bill Wyman. He’s now regarded as one of the most creative of the current era of guitar heroes, with a distinctive flair.
Says Free: “I’m not into guitar technique and/or speed. I am a simple blues-rock inspired guitarist, influenced by the greats that came before me: Muddy Waters, Albert King, John Lee Hooker, Billy Gibbons and Jimi Hendrix to name a few. I am only interested in the outcome of my guitar playing in connection with my songwriting or a good free form jam… did it move my audience and listeners, did we connect on the level of music.”
You can hear his approach on current album Tattoo Burn, which has just been released by Cargo Records. And you can see him in action at the 12 Bar in London on Monday, April 16.
Now you can download the album’s title song (that’s Tattoo Burn, in case you weren’t paying attention) for free right here.
