Track of the Day: Logan

We kick off our free track giveaway with the current single from the ‘Best New Band in Scotland’
Logan have been one of Jock Rock’s best kept secrets since their formation in 2003 – which makes the band’s victory as Best New Scottish Band at the Scottish Variety Awards a couple of weeks ago, all the more surprising.

Maybe it’s just another sign of how slow the mainstream is to catch up with the rock underground. To be honest, here at Classic Rock even we were slow to see that we had a budding Alter Bridge/Pearl Jam/Alice In Chains on our doorstep.

CR first covered the band back in May 2007 – four years after their debut album and by which time it was impossible to ignore the emails from readers north of the border who had been blown away by this young five piece.

In lots of ways, in fact, bands like Logan forced us here at Classic Rock to look at how we covered young bands and to make a concerted effort to listen to bands beyond those being pushed on us by record companies. The result has been coverage of a such a wealth of new bands – from the signed (Stone Gods, The Answer) to the independent (Rose Hill Drive, Heaven’s Basement, Santeria,  Bible Of The Devil, Pig Iron, Ulyseess, Hell City Glamours, Electric Mary etc etc etc) – that you could be forgiven for thinking that rock isn’t the most exciting genre in music today.

It’s why we set up our own record label, why we put new bands on our CDs every month, and this website is bringing you the sounds of new bands every day from now on.

Following a European tour with Alterbridge last year and a stadium support to Bon Jovi in Glasgow, Logan are well placed to reap dividends when it all goes supernova. Scottish punters can catch them in a few weeks here:

12th March – Inverness, Mad Hatters
14th March – Edinburgh, Studio 24
15th March – Aberdeen, Moshulu
