Track Of The Day: Helmet

Alt. metal heroes Helmet are about to release their first album in four years. And they provide the latest Track Of The Day. Check out all the Tracks Of The Day.

Seeing Eye Dog, as the album’s called, is the band’s seventh in all, and sees mainman Page Hamilton (guitar/vocals) joined by guitarist Dan Beeman, bassist Chris Traynor and drummer Kyle Stevenson. The band have even included a cover of the Beatles’ And Your Bird Can Sing. Says Hamilton of that choice:

“I just always loved that song and thought of doing it. It’s such an odd track and I always felt like I could do something cool with it. The degree of guitar difficulty didn’t come into my mind. I just love the song, the way it progresses.”

This time around, Hamilton feels the band have really stretched out, in terms of their style:

“The Helmet musical vocabulary is well established at this point, but I continue to work on a variety of musical projects that inevitably influence the Helmet songs. I’ve been working on movies with Elliott Goldenthal and co. for 17 years now and had never really experimented with incorporating these soundscapes (or shit sculpting as I prefer to call it) into Helmet songs.”

Seeing Eye Dog is released by the Work Song label on September 7. Right now you can download for free a remix of the song LA Water (done by Josh Boardman of Battle Tapes) here.
