Track Of The Day: Heights
Heights have just released a new double A-sided single. And they’re giving these away as the latest Tracks Of The Day. Check out all past Tracks Of The Day here.
The Welwyn Garden City band began in 2009, and two years later put out debut album Dead Ends. This followed up the 09 EP The Land, The Ocean, The Distance. Although they started as a metalcore band, Heights have now added more diversity to their style, even heading towards an overt progressive tint.
The new single features the line-up of vocalist Thomas Debaere, guitarists Dean Richardson and Tom Green, bassist Alex Monty and drummer Tom Hutton. The songs featured are These Streets and Gold Coast.
“It’s (These Streets) about wanting to escape the day to day monotony of Welwyn Garden City,” says Debaere. “I was feeling uninspired one day, so I went and sat in a coffee shop in the town centre and wrote about how the town makes me feel and what I saw around me. Nothing has changed in Welwyn, people I grew up with are still pushing prams and I still hate this town.
“The lyrics for Gold Coast were written during a long drive along the Gold Coast in Australia during a tour there in February 2011. They are about being so far away from home but at the same time feeling so at home and taking a fresh look at life.”
You can see the band live at the Hit The Deck Festival in Nottingham on April 22, and at Ghostfest at Leeds University on June 30.
