Track Of The Day: Heavy Water Experiments

Heavy Water Experiments have been described as mixing retro revivalism with avant-psychedelia. From Los Angeles, they provide the latest Track Of The Day. Check out all the Tracks Of The Day.

Heavy Water Experiments describe their influences as “too many to name – some are obvious in that everyone would like to claim them as influences (Led Zep, Beatles, etc.) – others are obscure enough that we’d rather they remain a secret”.

Their sound veers from the mellow and acoustic approach of ethereal psych-folk to the heavy and dark sounds of stoner rock. To date, they’ve released a self-titled album (put out last year) and a single. Hermes Told Me So, has just been made available.

Says mainman David Melbye of the band’s musical ambitions:

“The category we’re really embracing is psychedelic rock. We’re not trying to be a revivalist band, not recreate the 60s and early 70s; we’re doing something in which ‘psychedelic’ refers to something more visceral. It’s something more physiological, not just a melody or heavy song; it imitates a drug-like feeling, although it doesn’t necessarily compel someone to take drugs or get stoned, but imitates that sensation.”

Joining Melbye (who plays guitar, keyboards and bass) is long-time partner and drummer Roberto Salguero, with the rest of the HWE line-up being rather fluid.

Last year, the band gave us the song Clairvoyance as a Track Of The Day. Now they offer us The Plunge as a free download. Just click here.
