Track Of The Day: Haken

Time for some interesting music from a young London band who combine jazz, metal and prog, delivered with excellent musicianship. That’s the score with Haken, who provide the latest Track Of The Day. Check out all the Tracks Of The Day.

Haken started in 2007, founded by school pals Richard Henshall (guitar/keyboards), Ross Jennings (vocals) and Matthew Marshall (guitar).  Keyboard player Peter Jones was discovered online, and he brought with him drummer Richard Hearne.

To-Mera guitarist Tom McLean switched to bass to complete the first line-up, which recorded a three-track, 35-minute demo. Their reputation quickly grew, and new song Black Seed was featured on the free CD with the second issue of Classic Rock Presents Prog.

The loss of both Jones and Marshall was quickly offset by the arrival of Charlie Griffiths (Linear Sphere) and Diego Tejeida, respectively. Support slots with the likes of of King’s X, To-Mera and Bigelf have ensured the band have continued to grow in stature. And they’ve just released debut album Aquarius on the Laser’s Edge/Sensory label.

Find out what the fuss is all about by downloading the song Eternal Rain for free here.

Ray Hearne

Wow brilliant!
Drummer’s name is Raymond, not Richard, though!
Happens all the time…

Careful with that axe.....

I love this track – check out the crazy guitars and keyboard interplay – from their awesome album AQUARIUS – got it from Laser’s Edge last week. Haken at its best and taken to the next level.
PS – sensational live band.

Great show opening for Diablo Swing Orchestra – HAKEN were on fire, great sound, a crowd of enthusiastic people turned up, specifically to see HAKEN, despite the early start and a real buzz after the set – STREAMS – ETERNAL RAIN – CELESTIAL ELIXIR, during which the jazz band section was played live by the Haken Horns, who burst on to the stage bang on cue, played brilliantly and disappeared – pure HAKEN. Here they are warming up back stage.
