TRACK OF THE DAY – FISHBONE
The perennially eclectic rockers get their groove on for today’s TOTD…
Words: Malcolm Dome
The genius of Fishbone should have led to mainstream recognition years ago. But they remain a cult talent. However, anyone who’s been touched by the Los Angeles band’s unique ability to combine, rock, ska, punk, funk, soul, jazz – and just about anything else they can lay their hands on – will understand their appeal.
Forever Moore – today’s TOTD – is typical of the way the ‘Bone build an atmosphere. On the surface, it’s almost a smooth ballad. Yet underneath it’s got an edge, energy and a driven melody. It’s the iceberg principle. All might sound calm, so laidback the band can scarcely stay upright, but delve deeper and the true tightness and focus is obvious. It’s a midnight Summertime booster, with added sensuality for effect.
Taken from the 2006 album Still Stuck In Your Throat, this was the first to feature Suicidal Tendencies guitarist Rocky George, who proved what he could do through allowing space for the music to breathe. And frontman Angelo Moore is in strong form, leading with his usual mix of vocal depth, insidious humour and street corner charisma.
Three decades on from their birth, the ‘Bone have still got it – and if you wanna know what ‘it’ is, then you need Moore – Forever Moore.

a cracking track from a classic band. One of the best. Well done Malcolm
