Blackbud’s take on Zeppelin’s Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You was one of the highlights of our Tribute to Led Zeppelin CD back in issue 96 (Summer, 2006). In that very issue, Jimmy Page himself sang their praises: “I remember hearing their first demo when I was in LA and being really impressed,” said Page. “they are serious musicians, they’re doing their homework and they seem to know why music ticks rather than why image ticks…”

Three years later and the Wiltshire band have finally produced a follow-up to that much raved about debut. “We feel like we did things the opposite way round,” says drummer Sam. “Our first record was just dense, complex – we took a lot more historic references on that record. This time, we’ve gone back to basics. We’ve gone back to a raw, rougher kind of thing. Mike represented all of those things to us and gave us the confidence to know where to stop. To know that one really amazing guitar part is enough and you don’t have to put five more on top of each other because that will start to water things down eventually.”

Singer/guitarist Joe Taylor still has the range and stylings of a young Jeff Buckley – hear for yourself on free track So It Seems, available from here (Track 5, middle of the page) and when the band hit the road later this month and next.
