Track Of The Day: Bell X1

Our latest Track Of The Day comes from Talking Heads sounding art-rockers, Bell X1. Click here for previous Tracks Of The Day.

One spin of today’s track of the day, and you’ll be forgiven if you think you’re listening to a Talking Heads outtake from 1988. You’re not, however, you’re listening to Bell X1 – a band from Ireland who just happen to sound *very* much like David Byrne and co.

Their latest album, Blue Lights On The Runway, is their fourth album, and their new-wavey, experimental rock has been getting a lot of exposure on US telly shows like Grey’s Anatomy and One Tree Hill, so it’s probably high time we listened up this side of the pond.

Their MySpace site states that they sound like “a barrel of fannies”. We’re not entirely sure what that means, but we do know they sound good.

Check them out by downloading The Great Defector here!

According to frontman Paul Doonan, The Great Defector is a celebration of the madness of being on the road. “Touring can do funny things to a fella,” he explains. “There is sometimes an unhinged exhilaration to the transience of it all – the constant newness of everything, the people you meet, the sociable hours, bad food and boozing.”

And if you like what you hear the band are currently in the midst of a short UK tour, so you can check them out on the following dates too.

MAY:

16 – Brighton, The Great Escape, The Arc
17  – Birmingham, Barfly
19 – London, Scala
20 – Manchester, Club Academy
21 – Glasgow, King Tuts

Bell X1’s single The Ribs Of A Broken Umbrella and their new album Blue Lights On The Runway are both out now.
