Track of The Day: Arbouretum
Doom-folk, anyone? Click here for previous Tracks Of The Day.
An arboretum is, in effect, a tree sanctuary. The misspelled – but much admired – Arbouretum is a Baltimore-based band whose latest album has been called “the best doom-folk record of all time”.
On their MySpace Arbouretum list their influences as Fairport Convention’s Sandy Denny, post-hardcore band Lungfish, Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot, and drone metal pioneers Earth. Which is one way of saying that they lumber from pretty melody and pastoral vibes to heavy and hypnotic noise.
Today’s free track is False Spring, described on their record company’s website thus: ““False Spring”, the album opener, is propelled by heavy guitar rhythms that roll like waves against a levee until they finally burst through to unleash a flood of ferocious, acid-drenched, solo passages.”
