Track Of The Day: Amebix
Veteran British band Amebix have just released a new album. They provide the latest Track Of The Day. Check out all Tracks Of The Day here.
The crust punk/metal band first got together in 1978, releasing debut album Arise! in 1985 on Jello Biafra’s Alternative Tentacles label – they were first UK signees to AT. But Amebix split up in 1987.
However, the band returned in 2008, with vocalist/bassist Rob Miller and guitarist/vocalist Stig from the original band joined by Soulfly/Stone Sour drummer Roy Mayorga. The last named has apparently been crucial to the band’s reactivation.
“Roy has bought more than just musicianship to the band, he has bought discipline and an understanding of what we truly wanted to convey, and the experience to allow that to manifest.”
Last year, Amebix put out the Redux EP and in late September this year followed it up with the Sonic Mass album. Both show that the band’s roots remain intact, being influenced by the likes of Killing Joke, Joy Division, Motorhead, Crass and Black Sabbath.
Says Miller of the new record: “It took three years, looking for opportunities to meet and create music – different places, different times. It feels like this album grew organically around us. It’s a mature reflection on the lives we’ve lived and a vindication of the journey”.
Oh, and just to add an unusual flavour, Miller now lives on the Isle Of Skye where he works as a swordsmith!
