Track Of The Day: Alberta Cross
They’ve got Swedish and English roots, yet are currently based in New York. The music is inspired by folk, blues and the late ’80s alternative scene. They are Alberta Cross, who provide our newest Track Of The Day. Click here for previous Tracks Of The Day.
The band are based around the partnership of vocalist/guitarist Petter Ericson Stakee (as his name suggests, he’s a Swede!) and bassist Terry Wolfers. The pair met when the former finally settled in London at the start of the decade, bonding over a mutual love of The Band, Van Morrison and Leonard Cohen. Since then, Alberta Cross have taken these influences and fashioned them into something that belongs solely to them.
Think The White Stripes if they’d grown up listening to Crosby, Stills & Nash in the late 1960s. Or the Kings Of Leon with a passion for King’s X. That’s what they offer up – a fresh vision on an old-school blues focus.
The founding pair – together with guitarist Sam Kearney, keyboard player Alec Higgins and drummer Austin Beede – have just released their debut album. It’s called Broken Side Of Time, and is on the ATO label. It clearly suggests that, with a UK tour happening in November, all routes might well leads to the ‘Cross road.
