Is this a joke????? The last line up was pretty ropey but ricky warwick???? This is just a tribute band should in no way be called Thin Lizzy
Aberdeen are getting Motorhead in November then Thin Lizzy in January? Someone, somewhere must really like us!
I know, I know, its not really Lizzy without Phil, but as far as ‘tribute’ acts go that line up is sizzling. Hopefully Viv Campbell will play the solos with their proper melody rather than widdly widdly Sykes just running up and down the fretboard as fast as he can
How can this band continue to exist without Phil Lynott?
What an interesting line up! Good to see Brian back on drums. Just been listening to Lizzy’s back catalogue recently and it’s amazing how well it still sounds; The fighting album for me is their best, there was so much more to them than just the hits.
No disrespect to John Sykes (who was a major part of Lizzy’s return to form with Thunder & Lightning), but Lizzy were getting ever heavier and more metal-like in recent times, which was not a good thing. Especially pleased to see Tommy Aldridge go – a fine drummer but not a good fit for Lizzy. Brian Downey is the man! Brilliant to see him back. I know that there are a bunch of fans that will carp on about it never being Lizzy without Phil, but as long as they remain respectful to the legacy I am all for it. Don’t give a toss what they call themselves or whether they are a tribute band to themselves! Hopefully they will be a fitting tribute to Philo which is all we can ask.
Who cares about this hollow shell of Thin Lizzy anymore? I’m too young to have seen the great Phil Lynott live before his tragic death, but I’m endlessly disappointed from what I see from the current lineup of the band. If you want to see a band that does 100% justice to the songs we all know and love, go see these guys:
http://www.limehouselizzy.co.uk/
They put on one of the most enjoyable shows I’ve ever been to.
I know some people will complain about flogging a dead horse but for many it’s the only chance to ever see Thin Lizzy live. And look at those prices! So down to earth anyone can afford them. How can anyone complain? I say bring it on.
This lot should be charged under the trades descriptions act.
This is not Thin Lizzy!
What a joke!
Not sure about Ricky Warwick as vocalist at all but we have at least 3 genuine members of old Lizzy, Darren, Brian and Scott so whatever the name I hope to be there to see ‘em.
Couple of things to note here. 1) There are many bands of this vintage that are still trading under the same name with fewer stalwarts than Lizzy. The problem for Lizzy is that for many Phil WAS Lizzy. But as he ain’t here anymore……
2) How many of the moaners would go to a Scott Gorham solo show and complain if he didn’t deliver a set full of Lizzy hits?
3) Ricky Warwick is the unknown quantity here for me, but let’s cut the guy a break.
4) Yes Limehouse Lizzy are very good (but prone to equipment failures in my experience) – but I wanna see Scott and Brian play these songs (as long as they still do them justice). If they could get Gary or Brian R along too that would be great, but if they can’t, so be it.
5) In conclusion it seems that the resistance would be much less if they called themselves something OTHER than Thin Lizzy! It would be the same band, but more than likely a different reaction! I don’t get it.
Even the SAHB didn’t get the same shit for carrying on without Alex!
interesting line up, I look forward to it, great musicians and at least they wont be a “heavy metal” version of lizzy, Lizzy were never a metal band, Sykes was never respectful to the classic sound
Give Ricky a chance. If you listen to his solo material you’ll realise that he sounds completely different to the work he did with The Almighty.
This is an insult.
£23-26 for a tribute? Scott Gorham needs a stern talking to.
EPIC!!!
Great line up, it’s maybe the only chance I will get to see Thin Lizzy so im stoked.
Of course it won’t be same without Phil but this is a fitting tribute to one of the greatest rock bands.
Rock on 6th January!!!
after the fiasco of the sykes/aldrigde tour I would say anything would be better! at least brian and darren are in it and mr warwick is a cool frontman. still think it would better to call it the rengades tho, also have def lep split up?
Love Phil Lynott , seen him many times with Lizzy , always gave a cracking performance but , Phil is dead ! he won´t be back , if Lizzy are able to keep the flag flying and bring me down memory lane for a while then , why not ? The ticket prices are very modest , don´t particularly like Vivian campbell , really I´d love to see Brian or Gary but don´t knock this before it´s even begun .
FUCKING DISGRACE !!!!!
No, no, no. No harm to the guys and I suppose under a different name they wouldn’t have the sales but really, come on. This is as genuine as Dares bass player. Reminds me (although I know it’s not that bad) of Black Sabbath “featuring” Tony Iommi or Asia with only Geoff Downes remaining. They should you would have thought called it something like “an evening of Thin Lizzy”. That’s maybe mince but you get the idea. Oh and Brian Robertson? Have a watch at that Gary Moore DVD a tribute to Phil. Woeful.
Meh! usual old men (and women) moaning i see..
“Lizzy died when Phil died blah blah blah”
Move on you old fools!
Ricky Warwick is a superb frontman, songwriter and lyricist.
Scott did well.
Noooooooooooooooo,
Change the name please!!!!!!!
No Lynott, No Lizzy!
I don´t care what it´s called. This lineup is gonna ROCK!!!! Just one other thing for all the doubters. I´m pretty sure that the guys are doing this because they too are TRUE fans of Phil. Not only fans but FRIENDS.The legacy of Thin Lizzy can never be underestimated because they influenced so many, and brought joy to millions.
this will be a good tour, i seen ricky warwick the otherweek in a club in swansea, and wot a singer. this guy is amazing! grate chioce in my opp. thinn lizzy will never die, the music lives on!!!
Awful…and disgraceful. This band should call it a day immediately. They are an embarrassment to the name Thin Lizzy
For all those bashing Sykes, at least he was actually in Lizzy, albeit for one album….Vivian Campbell??? Don’t make me laugh, i knew him when he was in Sweet Savage in Belfast, back when he hadn’t gone all ‘rock star’ and slagged off metal fans….tribute??? More like pension top up…i’d have been at the vibe in Dublin anyhow, Campbell trying to play Lizzy solo’s should provide some entertainment….as for Ricky Warwick, dunno enough about him to comment….all just seems a bit sad and tacky to me though….and Tom, Lizzy DID die with Phil, so NO, i won’t move on, i’m not an old fool, just a fan who was lucky enough to see THE REAL LIZZY with Phil, and no one, no matter how good a frontman you may think, can even come close, end of story!! Lizzy aint Lizzy without Phil, maybe you should just deal with it, and accept that for this lot to call themselves Thin Lizzy is just plain wrong
I totally agree with Krabby Patty. We all know it’s not Phil and the name is being kept alive by Scott. I saw Lizzy a few times with Sykes and I don’t buy this “metal” tag he has – I think he was fine in Lizzy, both as a vocalist and a guitarist. I love One Night Only, the live album they did with Sykes too. Great to have Brian Downey back. I also support Limehouse Lizzy, seen them twice. The only thing I’m not sure about is Ricky Warwick and that’s because I simply haven’t heard his stuff (Almighty / Solo etc.) – hopefully he’ll be ok!
Brian Downey is a brilliant drummer, in the same class as Paice, so it’s good to see him back where he should be.
Viv Campbell is a great guitarist, and far less ‘metal’ than he used to be. He and Sykes are, or were, major Moore students, but that’s not a bad thing.
From what I remember of The Almighty – very little – Ricky Warwick was a metal growler. However, Gorham and co. must know what they’re doing! Maybe he’s got a more melodic side to him.
I have to add, though, that the absence of Eric Bell is a bit surprising! He can sing his own Lizzy songs, so why not the later ones?
We’d all be better off going to see the legendary Limehouse Lizzy… probably closer sounding to the real thing than this “new” line-up …
Rick Warwick… WTF… worse than when the Buggles joined Yes
Who cares? Phildoe been fer years, band get new singers all da the time. Remember Ac/dc? Bon was great but Brain has been great too! So get a life homos!
Let’s start a list of bands still touring with TWO or less original members:
Guns ‘n Roses- Just Axl
Suicidal Tendencies- Mike Muir & Mike Clark
Hanoi Rocks(until last year) Michael Monroe & Andy McCoy
It goes on and on,throw in MSG,Foreigner,Skynard blah, blah, blah. Seems like people are still showing up at the shows or they wouldn’t be on the road!!!
Ricky who?!
Vivian who?!
is this a joke?
Downey didn’t seem at all positive when he last left the band. Assume he just didn’t like Sykes maybe, now.
Downey puts a founding member back in the band. And he played on half of Lynott’s non-Lizzy stuff and tons of Gary Moore’s career, so he gives it more authenticity in my mind than Gorham/Sykes pairing did.
Curious about this.
There would be no chance of them coming to Australia I suppose. I would love to see this – particularly Brian Downey play. I agree that Phil was Thin Lizzy but I’d enjoy this all the same.
Ricky Warwick are you kin sure,
everyone please stop downloading music now, then these guys can go back to thier proper jobs and wont have to moonlight.
Heres a suggestion: get the guy from limehouse lizzy, add scott, brian and robbo (daren as well hes sorta there)
that would be as close as you will ever get.
Of course we all want Phil at the helm, but that ain’t gonna happen. I’d go just to see Brian and Scott playing together again. I do hope that Viv is loyal to the guitar work, and won’t be nearly as heavy on the pinch harmonics as Sykes. Is it Lizzy? No– but to see the songs celebrated for the masses still gets me there.
If you don’t like it don’t go the gigs, simple. I saw the last ever UK lizzy gig with Phil back in 1983,and seen lizzy a few times over the last few years. It’s a great show, great entertainment full of songs you can rock to,and at a fair price.Looking forward to the tour in Ipswich, bring it on.
Despite the fact that I said it would be nice to see Brian R back, I have to say that Glasgow Stu has a good point based on the Gary Moore DVD. I haven’t watched it for a while but I do remember wincing a bit! Vivian Campbell is a fine guitar player and I am sure will do the name proud (in fact I first saw him in Sweet Savage supporting Lizzy on the Renegade Tour!).
I know it seems odd to have Thin lizzy without Phil, but it was arguably as much Scott and Brian’s band. Why should one man’s death rob them of their right to earn a living. That’s certainly the best line-up since they returned. Fairplay to ‘em.
they should be a thin lizzy tribute band, lynott is irreplaceable, better going to see limehouse lizzy, the guy looks and sounds like lynott.
No Lynott – No Lizzy
I am a fan of Lizzy and would say, this is a welcoming lineup.
Before anyone starts ranting over Mr. Warwick, go and listen to Ricky’s solo albums then you’d know why he was chosen for the job. Great vocals indeed and at least he’s Irish!
Vivian is a great choice, since he’ll be actually playing the solo’s note for note. and mind you he has a good voice as well.
Don’t forget this is a tribute band after all, and as far as they go, this is a fresh line up worth going to see. Already looking forward to the Dublin gig, I have a feeling it will be a night to remember!
No Phil = No Lizzy.
for gods sake give them a chance,no ones even heard them yet. and as for name-look at queen when you talk about flogging a dead horse. rock on guys
Thank f**k Sykes has gone! He dominated and ruined this band for way too long. Now we’ve got THREE ex-members (Downey makes this more official than it has been in years) plus Viv Campbell, who goes back to 1981 when his original band Sweet Savage toured with Lizzy, Only question is, why not use Wharton for vocals, he can certainly do a reasonable Lynott husk, I don’t get the inclusion of Warrick.
Sorry Mark, i apologise for calling you an “old fool”
What i really meant in your special case is “selfish old fool!”
Forgive me for thinking that just because you saw Thin Lizzy back in the day everyone else who has not are suddenly denied the pleasure just because Phil Lynott is no longer with us.
Apologies again for being younger than your wise old years.
That goes for anyone else who think they have the god given right!
Who gives a stink if it aint got Phil Lynott, he’s busy playing the big gig in the sky!
I grew up listening to their albums and even tho I’m too young to have had the chance to see Lynott, they were always a band, not a one man show so all u fruitcakes who keep whinging about how it aint Lizzy without Lynott go take a running jump off a tall cliff. No one’s forcing u to go see the show, stop being a bunch of cry babies.
Where’s Robbo? Doesn’t he wana play some geetaw anymore? And is his hair’s still crap?
having seen eric sykes version and now vivian cambell?(brilliant in dio ,now a lost boy!)
i am glad the greatest front/showman of his generation is not here to be apart of this
lizzy finished th day phill lynott died !!!!
people who never had th privledge to see the great man perform may get something out of this band , but better still safe your money and go and see ” limehouse lizzy”
To Tom and others who think this is ok, yeah Tom, selfish old fool??? Also someone who knows a bit more about this than you do!!! Every year, on 4th January in Dublin is an event called Vibe For Philo…this January is the 25th anniversary. The Vibe organisers wanted as many ex members as they could get to play at it….Gorham turned ‘em down, Downey always refused to play at The Vibe as he said “playing on 4th January would be too emotional”…THEY are playing/planning a RIVAL gig to the Vibe, which is fully endorsed and supported by Philomena Lynott, the fact that these clowns wouldn’t play at the Vibe (where all the artists play for free) but set up their own little gig in the same city on the same night using the name of Phil’s band, sorry Tom, maybe i’m a selfish old fool, but if you and others like you cannot see that this is just plain wrong, then you are a stupid young fool with no sense of whats right and wrong, and this gig in Dublin on 4th January 2011 is WRONG….As for people asking where’s Robbo, he’ll be playing at the Vibe for all the true Lizzy fans and Phil’s mother, which is what Gorham and co should have done but they’d rather make a few quid….hope they enjoy playing in a virtually empty venue in Dublin!!!
OK, I’m a huge Thin Lizzy fan. Never saw the Phil line-up. I did see the Sykes version many times. He was a member of the band and always acknowledged Phil. He’s ranks up their not far behind Gary Moore in talent. I saw Def Leppard with Ricky Warwick as the opening act, just him and an acoustic guitar. I also saw the Almighty back in 93 or so. Vivians band Sweet Savage opened for Lizzy. Ricky opened for Vivian in Def Leppard. Ricky is an Irish storyteller. As for metal, Sykes played on the heaviest of all Lizzy albums.Who knows what would have happened if they would have stayed together. Sykes went on to earn Whitesnake money and Scott earned 21 Guns money. Vivian has said he hates the stuff he played in DIO. I’m glad Mr.Downey and Dare I say Mr.Wharton are back. It should be quite interesting.
Excuse me, is’nt Phil dead. Cash cow or what. With so much talent can’t these boys do somethng new. It’s like Chickenfoot trying to be Van Halen, but Chickenfoot are fuckin’ ace. Come on guys let it be, let it go. Ricky is a great solo artist in his own right, why be overshadowed by a past that will surley dwarf him. I for one will not be going. Presale – my arse !!!
Well I’ll be going to Bristol in January.
Saw the Skykes fronted version supporting Deep Purple and was blown away. Ricky Warwick and Thin Lizzy is a match made in Heaven for me. LOVE Ricky’s solo work.
It’s sad that Phil is no longer with us but it’s good that a band called Thin Lizzy is still going, keeping his music and legacy alive. Scott Gorham is a guitar god and one of the most underrated guitarists.
Also, lots of band carry with different lineups: AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd, KISS, Guns N’ Roses, Smashing Pumpkins, The Doors etc.
Give them a chance b4 you start moaning, I’ve seen Lizzy many times with Phil and a few times without also Limehouselizzy. Any chance to hear Lizzy live again is not to be missed.
I see the old man is still crying in his beer about days of yore!
If THIN LIZZY want to play the same night as Vibe for Philo then that is their prerogative, nothing wrong with choice old man.
Besides i would not cross the road to see a washed up spectacle that passes as Robbie these days, i saw him nearly 2 years ago at the Sweden rock festival guesting with Dare and he was shambolic!
I cant really see that you know more about this than me, in fact i doubt you know very much at all considering you are so blinkered and set in your old ways.
I wonder how much you knew of Ricky Warwick before his news broke 2 days ago?
I have been a huge Thin Lizy fan since I was 14 I am coming up to 50th. I have seen Lizzy with the brilliant Phil 4 times and twice without him. So long as the new line up keep Phil’s music and his name alive we should give them a chance. No one can ever replace Phil but Lizzy were a group of fantastic musicians, Lizzy in my eyes arn’t Lizzy without Brian on drums or Scott on guitar. I will certainly go to see them.
Tom….i bought The Almighty’s firts 2 albums when they came out…so yeah i’d heard of Ricky, he was born in my town! And no I’m not crying in my beer as you say, It just seems to me such a shame that these guys couldn’t have played The Vibe, turned it down in fact….but you’re quite welcome to go and see whoever you like, just like i’m quite entitled to voice my opinion on here, whether YOU like it or not, same for you….but if all you can do is make an arse of yourself about my age, (40 btw, not an old man yet) well that says more about the level of your intellect than it does about my opinion on this incarnation of Lizzy…oh and stooping to your childish level before i go….Robbie??? I assume you mean Robbo??? Oh and puttting the bands name in caps, try a bit harder than that if you want to get a bite, we all know it’s not Lizzy, but enjoy the tour, i’ll enjoy The Vibe, if i don’t die of old age first…..
Brilliant to see Downey and Mendoza back.
Tommy Aldridge is a shit drummer,
Give them a chance and stop moaning cos Phil aint there.
Ok, just my personal thoughts….
I think £23 or so is great value to see scott, brian & darren alone & I will give the others a fair crack of the whip to stand with the original 3
Limehouse Lizzy are indeed a mighty fine band & they always take me back to Leeds queens hall 1983, seen ‘em 6 times now & I”ll keep seein ‘em any night I’m not gigging & they are. I don’t think Wayne looks at all like Phil (ok same colour skin) but he just IS like him so much it’s scary
So I for one will be getting my hand in my pocket & seeing the new Lizzy…… peace
Ricky Warwick has big shoes to fill and I wish him luck. Scott says they’re going to tone down the metal end of things. Great. I really hope the band bring it off this time around. Anything that flys the flag for Lizzy is fine by me, even if I’m firmly in the No Lynott no Lizzy Camp. But playing on the 4th January in Dublin and flying in the face of a tradition all except Warwick and Vivian Campbell have participated in at least once is as Phils mum says “below the belt.” She’s called for a boycott of the Lizzy gig in honour of Phil’s memory. I agree. They should know better. The Vibe for Philo was flying the flag and keeping Phils memory alive when the Irish and International press was busy shredding his reputation. It’s sad and in the end the Lizzy name will be dragged even further into the mud. Hopefully someone will see sense before reputations are tarnished even further. Philo deserves better.
Grow up idiots! This is great. philip would want this
No.. actually Philo would want this.. as does his mother, close friends and 1,000 who signed up to the facebook group in the last 18 hours
SAVE THE 2011 “VIBE FOR PHILO” FROM BEING HIJACKED

The idiot above needs to grow up, what a sad existence you must lead

Now I dunnay know who I am …?
All of ma friends think I’m a right arse, they have said so to the people who matter but not to me so…I still stand by my Thistle when I say that Scott and Brian have every right to claim the name Thin Lizzy. Ach , I’m drunk half the time..who do I think I am telling people who played with Philip what te’ do…I’m just an old bastard wi’ nay life except beating the wife everytime I get drunk…
Please can you ask Scott Gorham what is he doing?
Firstly, where is the complete live recording of the Still Dangerous release, he has only released half of the original concert and why has Brian Robertson’s guitar been mixed down>
Secondly, I cannot understand his comment about John Sykes saying the band was “too metal” if he didn’t like it he should have said, but money talks !!
Grow up you moaning pigs Brian Downey is an original founding member of Thin Lizzy or do you all forget this little fact.
Having seen the original line up with Phil and not seen any of the subsequent line ups this is the first one I would go and see …. if the buggers would play Belfast which they are currently ignoring. Who do they think they are ..U2 (1997 last time they played in Belfast).
Anyone else notice how many mentions Limehouse Lizzy are getting, all their families must be writing in,LOL !
Someone posted a comment about bands changing members all the time and to ‘move on’ – well I’m all for making a fesh start etc but Phil’s departure was tragic, he didn’t choose to end his life or music career! Scott and Brian (in my opinion) should show much deserved respect for Phil, his mother and his still adoring fans by leaving the Thin Lizzy name as the legend it is and not try to pick up from where Phil left. Continue to pay tribute to the true Thin Lizzy by celebrating the 4th January and keep Phil’s (and the Thin Lizzy band’s) memory alive that way.
…as for Lizzy tribute bands – thankyou for sharing your talent and the passion you share on stage in the hundreds of pubs and clubs up and down the country. I’ve seen Limehouse and yeah they put on a good stage performance, BUT personally I feel that’s just what it is – a performance! It’s like watching a boy band and the sound is very ’studio’ for my liking. If you are wanting to capture the nearest sound, look/characteristics, energy, enthusiasm and genuine passion and appreciation to the real Thin Lizzy, I am confident in saying ‘TWIN LIZZY’ are the ones to watch! These guys are remarkable. Visit their website to find a gig near you and re-live your Lizzy days, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!
http://www.twinlizzy.com
Oh, stop moaning you lot , you have got some great musicians who have got together , have you any idea what it takes to pull all that together ?? Phil made a big impression on an awful lot of people, so much so they want to play his music, for YOU ! so in effect you are getting the best of both , for the price of a normal trib act …. just no pleasing some people..go and watch and listen , you are the type of people who leave bad hotel reviews because it rained ! This is real LIVE music played from their hearts … not a copy of a CD AAaarrrrgggghhhh
.
John Sykes was way too metal for Lizzy,he was of his time in 83 for the Thunder and Lightening album, but he kept the same Metal sound for the whole of the Lizzy catalogue,it was the same situ with Whitesnake,Fabulous Guitarist all the same.Viv C,has the same chops as Robbo and Moore(especially Moore)so is ideal to replicate the previous right side stage lads.As long as those songs are still played live it’s worth hearing
Further Sykes when in TL,sure keep the heavy overdriven sound for solo’s,even do a different solo as to stamp his own mark on a Lizzy song, but rythymically go easy on the distortion for the structure of the song. Each time I saw them live Johnny Boy’s sound completly washed Scott off the stage.I’ve saw a few Lizzy tributes and Thin as Lizzy where as tight as a Nun’s……….,
Great guitarist all the same
Regardless of who’s in Thin Lizzy now, i’ll be there to see them live on this tour.
Not because i’m a huge Lizzy fan, (although i am), but because of the support act, “The Greatest Rock’n'Roll Band In The World”, the mighty SUPERSUCKERS!
I’ve seen the ’suckers at least 7 times over the last decade and they never disappoint live, (or indeed, on record).
Make sure you all get there early enough to “fly the finger” with Eddie & the boys, you’ll be glad you did.
Thin Lizzy should be opening for the SUPERSUCKERS! aka ‘The Greatest Rockn’Roll Band In the Motherfuckin’ World’!!!
even if you don’t care for the TL lineup you should all seriously check out the Supersuckers. they’re the Real Thing as well as the Greatest Rock n’ Roll Band in the World. they should be headlining in my opinion. give ‘em a listen.
I’m old enough to have seen Lizzy in their prime with Phil, in ‘83, and have since seen them on 4 more occations with Sykes at the helm. I can’t see what the problem is. If you like the music, which I obviously do, then as long as the band play in the style of Phil, then bring it on. When you see people paying over £50 for Santana, then these prices are a steal to see two of the original band performing together (Scott and Brian!). Can’t wait till the Manc Apollo gig in Jan. THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN
I`m old school Lizzy, met the `76 & `78 line ups.Phill was a true gentleman, proffesional on stage a human being off it.Any band, agreed limehouse, dizzy etc, just keep the memory alive, the legend lives on as long as we keep supporting.
