Lars Ulrich to flog painting for $12m… Bon Jovi faces billion-dollar lawsuit… Leps’ Elliott upsets hockey hordes…
Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich is to flog a Jean-Michel Basquiat painting worth a hefty $12million next month. Ulrich, a keen collector of fine art, will sell the 1982 painting, called Untitled (Boxer), at Christies in New York on November 12. Ulrich bought the painting in 1999 but says now is the time to put it back out to the public. He trilled: “As a collector I view myself as a caretaker of works of art, rather than simply an owner.” You can see what Lars’s painting looks like below.

You’ve probably heard the rumour about Alter Bridge singer Myles R. Kennedy joining Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham in a reconstituted Led Zeppelin. Well, the ever-resourceful Clog just spoke to management and it’s ‘no comment’ from the Alter Bridge camp. No categorical denial, then?! ’Twas Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider who first broke the (alleged) news. “They’re saying [to Robert Plant], ‘We’re all rehearsed, we’re ready to go, here’s a gazillion dollars on the table,’” Snider told MuchMoreMusic. “If you don’t do it, we’re going out with this kid. And he can sing the shit out of Zeppelin.’ And they’re gonna, like, hope that Robert, at the last minute, will go, ‘OK,’ and step in, before having the lead singer of Alter Bridge out with John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Jason Bonham.” You can watch a short clip of Snider’s speculative comments here. Snider has been backed up by producer Kevin Shirley, who worked on several Led Zeppelin and Jimmy Page albums. Writing in his online diary, Shirley mentioned “a very troubling rumour”. He added: “There is a singer from a Florida heavy metal band who is pretty close to becoming My-Fave-Band-Ever’s singer. As the old one has a separate happening career. I have to admit to shock, shock, shock.”
The Clog is saddened to hear of the death of music publicist Joe O’Neil. He is believed to have suffered a fatal heart attack. O’Neil used to work with Classic Rock’s Mick Wall at a company called Heavy Publicity, handling the affairs of Black Sabbath, among others. If you have a copy of UFO’s Strangers In The Night live album to hand, then that’s O’Neil’s face on the cover. In recent years O’Neil branched out into classical music, helping guide the careers of classical music stars including Katherine Jenkins and Bryn Terfel. O’Neil was in the recording studio with choir Only Men Aloud! when he collapsed.

Jon Bon Jovi is being sued for $400 billion (yep, $400 BILLION!) by a Boston musician who says Jovi allegedly borrowed lyrics from his Boston Red Sox anthem titled (Man I Really) Love This Team. Samuel Bartley Steele, the frontman for a band calling themselves The Chelsea City Council, believes Bon Jovi heard his song while campaigning in Boston for John Kerry in 2004, then used the lyrics in his own song entitled I Love This Town. According to the Sleaze Roxx website, a Bon Jovi spokesperson says they haven’t seen the lawsuit yet. You can read Steele’s side of the story here.
We at the Clog don’t know much about American hockey but apparently Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott recently commited a faux pas of epic proportions. The Leps played during the NHL Face-Off Rocks opening night festivities last Thursday in Detroit. During the performance, a few of the Detroit Red Wings players paraded around the stage with the Cup before handing it off to Elliott. And what did Elliott do? Why, he placed the Stanley Cup upside down on a nearby table, of course. Elliott was heard to say: “It’s upside down? Well, never mind. We’re soccer boys, what do we know?” You can watch Elliott committing this heinous error here.

ac/dc tour. looks like us yorkshire folk are out of the loop again. listening iron maiden!!!!
I wouldn’t worry yet.. Tina Turner is playing the O2 on one of those dates
Both dates!!!
The O2 is the worst venue ever. It’s like going to a gig at a f**king shopping mall. You only have to see the parade of sh*te they have on their current “What’s On” list to see how un-rock it is. I really hope the rumours it being AC/DC’s choice of London venue are unfounded.
Do the right thing lads and do a month-long residency at Hammersmith! (In my dreams…..!).
Well as for Zep, I really badly want to see them even after their frankly sub-par gig at the 02 this time last year, but that said I really don’t think I would bother if Plant wasn’t with them, since he was one of the most important parts of the Zep sound, I do agree that Bonzo was a fantastic drummer, but nevertheless his contribution to the Zep sound could be replaced better than Percys in my opinion,
As for AC/DC I really do not believe that the leaked dates are what they will be playing, as has already been said Tina Turner is playing one of the dates mentioned, but more importantly AC/DC have officially sold more albums in the last 20 years than any other music act on the planet other than the Beatles, and they havent done a world tour in years, one date at a 20,000 capacity bomb shelter just wouldn’t be enough for the token London gig, my personal thoughts are that we are more likely to get an outdoor gig, or even more likely Stadium gigs Twickenham, Wembley Stadium, Millenium Stadium in Cardiff, that sort of thing, failing that we might end up getting a week long residency at the 02 like what several others have been doing lately,an extremely poor venue as far as i’m concerned but nevertheless it is the in thing at the moment
Finally….
For a painting of a boxer worth 12 million dollars, can someone please point out to me where it is, I somehow seem to have missed it, all I have had come up is a childs version of “The Scream” and I wouldn’t pay 12 quid for that, let alone 12 million
Myles Kennedy singing for the Zep? Well he is a pretty good singer AND could fill out the sound with his underreated guitar playing. But i just cant see it some how!
Where did you get that painting that my 7 year old son did, and who wants to buy it off me for £12million?
yup, crap paintin! sayin that, if ol jonny bon has a couple in the attic, might be the time to flog em a bit sharpe! never mind eh?
Nov 14 Lancaster The Pub – ACE/DC
Nearest thing most of us will get to seeing the real thing….
I would be absolutely gutted if Myles Kennedy joined Page etc.
I love Alter Bridge and if he was to do this would surely put their future in jeopardy as no doubt this tour would go on for a bit. Myles, please tell them bollocks you’ve already got a decent gig.
As for Jon Bon BlowMe, after his last album, he obviously run out of unknowns to plagiarise – cock!!!
Please Basquait was a great influential artist go to a museum people art is more than velvet Elvis paintings!
i know who basquait was, an that work is one of the reasons i find him overrated! bit out of the rock n roll loop ere mind! time an a place an all that gubbins!
the back of this month’s ‘Club International’ has something about AC/DC and an 0898 number…
I’d like to say that you are all really wrong and ill-informed regarding Lar’s painting. I’d like to say that, but I cant. Pay money for that? I’d rather wank off a dog with my arse.
These are the latest updated CONFIRMED (Geoff!) AC/DC dates.
They are in Antwerp March 1st so they wont be in Glasgow will they?!
The US dates finish end Jan, they will probably have a small break then start Europe mid Feb, so i predict April UK shows……..
I also recommend anyone wanting to go, join the fan club for $40, you wont get pre-sale tickets but you stand a far better chance of getting reserved tickets from the club, we did this for the 2 shows we are going to for Madison Square Garden, without the fan club we would be ticketless!!

AC/DC dates confirmed on Radio Two, as London, Manchester and Birmingham in April, i think it was 14th, 21st and 23rd.
What an amazing painting! The way they’ve shoved the paintbrush in the chimpanzee’s foot, and he’s made a stab at painting a … what? It’s by a human, y’say? And it’s worth how much …?
12 MILLION? JESUS FUCKING CHRIST ALMIGHTY!
nice one b p , cheered me up a treat that!
AC/DC aren’t coming to Scotland?
That’s not on boys.
Get it fuckin’ sorted.
PLEASE?
when i look at the painting all i see is chef from southpark, anyone agree?
