The New Issue Of Classic Rock Is On Sale Now!
Come inside to find out what’s in store this month…
The August issue of Classic Rock (issue 135) comes with a sensational FREE CD: Heavy Blues, a multi-coloured, mind-expanding sampler of contemporary drug-rock, a smattering of buzz-peddlers from all corners of planet rock with one intention: to take you higher.
And the trip continues inside the issue with…
Jimi Hendrix
Was it murder? Jimi’s biographer Harry Shapiro reconsiders the mysteries surrounding the guitarist’s death in our must-read cover story.
UK festival meltdowns
The first British rock festivals had no VIP areas, corporate sponsors or falafel stands. But they did have flooding, fires, security guards on the rampage, and shouts of “Wally!”
Hawkwind
Thought all Hawkwind’s freaky stuff belonged to the early 70s? You ain’t seen nothing yet. After that came sackings and counter-sackings; delusions and gun raids; back-stabbings, bust-ups and bitterness; and some real madness. It’s all here.
Woodstock
It’s mostly remembered as three days of peace, love and mind-blowing music. Forty years on, Sha Na Na and festival organiser Joel Rosenman explain what really happened.
Manic Street Preachers
Fourteen years after the disappearance of Richey Edwards – with the band’s ninth album – the last of his lyrics write the final chapter in his legacy.
Van Halen
It’s 1980. Van Halen are taking the world by storm. Uninterested by the swarms of 16 and 17-year-old girls with backstage passes, journalist Dave DiMartino finally meets his heroes.
The great rock’n'roll swindle?
CR launches a special investigation to shed light on the mysterious world of the concert ticket ‘booking fee’.
Ash
The story of the birth of Girl From Mars – it almost turned them into alcoholics, y’know!
Ray Davies
“I might have to cut my throat before any Kinks reunion.”
Brody Dalle
The former Distillers singer on now being a Spinnerette alongside a Queen and a former Chili.
Dee Snider
Twisted Sister’s frontman on learning from Alice Cooper, offering to fight Manowar and helping Arnie get elected.
Reviews
New albums from UFO, MSG, Nebula, Pig Irön, Rancid, Robin Trower…; reissues from The Rolling Stones, Family, Marillion, REM…; plus DVDs and books.

Interesting piece on why rock is not on radio much in the UK. Interesting you completely avoided mentioning my paper on the state of the music business in the UK. It explains fairly clearly why rock is shunned on UK radio.
The BBC doesn’t like it very much so they won’t play it and they do everything they can to make sure there are no rock stations. The BBC institutionally hate rock & metal because they believe its not politically correct and “too white”.
