Tee Pee Tuesday: Quest For Fire

Named after an arty 80s film about a band of prehistoric men looking to learn the secrets of fire, Toronto’s Quest For Fire found their spark in the classic rock and psychedelia of the late 60s and early 70s. They poured on some modern-day lighter fuel – some grungey superfuzz, the neo-space rock of Loop and Spacemen 3, the nihilistic metal of stoner rock – and then they stood back and watched it burn…
The band’s debut album is six tracks (only one of which is below the 6 minute mark) of sun-bleached and hashish-scorched bliss: snaking, hypnotic bass lines, smouldering guitars and smokey vocals. If last Tuesday’s track (the Atomic Bitchwax’s storming Revival[link]) was the soundtrack to the party, this week’s – Hawk That Hunts The Walking – is the bruised morning after, Black Sabbath’s Planet Caravan? 40 years on.
What d’yall want for nothing? A rubber biscuit?
