Supertramp Play Hodgson Songs Live

Supertramp are playing Roger Hodgson songs in their live set, despite the latter’s request that they leave them out on their 40th anniversary tour.

Hodgson says he had an agreement with fellow founder-member Rick Davies that none of his songs would be played by the band, as he’s not part of this reunion. However, currently the following six Hodgson written classics are part of the Supertramp set:

Breakfast In America

The Logical Song

Give A Little Bit

It’s Raining Again

Take The Long Way Home

Dreamer

We’ll see whether they’ll still being performed by the band when they come to London, playing the O2 Arena on October 6.

I think they should play the songs. Credit to Roger but it was his discision not to be there. It would have been a bigger reunion for the tour in the UK. I can’t wait to see them at O2
I guess it’s, ‘bloody all right.’ That’s what Rick would say!

I disagree with Robbie. Roger tried to work out touring with them this time, but talks fell through. Rick made the decision not to have Roger along this time. Supertramp playing Roger’s songs without Roger is not only a violation of a legal agreement made between the Hodgson & Davies, it’s a ripoff of the fans. This tour has been promoted using Roger’s songs & voice. That’s misrepresentation. Roger offered to join the group for a show or two, but that offer was ignored by the Davies camp. Yes, it would have been a HUGE reunion, all the fans would have loved it, but alas, the fans’ wishes were ignored by Davies & his management. :/

It would be pretty hard to play a Supertramp set without those songs.
It’s a real shame Roger wouldn’t participate, but that shouldn’t stop the remaining members playing those classics.

I agree that without these songs, something is missing. For whatever reasons the songs must be played. Roger will still continue to make money off the fat royalty checks he’ll recieve. Legally I don’t think Roger can prevent them from being performed or can he? Any music business attorneys here ?
