Nicks: Prince wanted romance with me
Stevie Nicks has revealed that Prince invited her to appear on his iconic track Purple Rain – but she thinks he had an ulterior motive.
The Fleetwood Mac vocalist believes he wanted to have an affair with her once studio duties had been completed on the 1984 masterwork.
Nicks tells Mojo: “I’ve still got the demo, with the whole instrumental track and a little bit of Prince singing ‘Can’t get over that feeling,’ or something.
“I told him: ‘Prince, I’ve listened to this a hundred times but I wouldn’t know where to start. It’s a movie – it’s epic.’
“The olive branch of him giving me that cassette was huge; but I think he would have liked a romance with me too.”
She says she was “very flattered” when he met her after a Mac concert and drove her to his home, recalling: “We get into his purple Camaro and bomb out onto the freeway at 100 miles an hour. I’m terrified – but kind of excited too.”
She had nothing to tell her expectant bandmates when she rejoined them ahead of their flight to the next show. “I get on the plane and I’m like, ‘What? Nothing happened.’”
Mac, who recently persuaded former member Christine McVie to guest on stage in London, were last month forced to abandon the Australia and New Zealand leg of their current world tour after bassist John McVie was diagnosed with cancer.
