Steven Tyler Upsets Joe Perry (Again)
It looks like there are ructions once more within the Aerosmith camp. Guitarist Joe Perry is concerned about frontman Steven Tyler’s apparent plans to become a judge on America Idol.
According to reports, Perry is annoyed that Tyler didn’t tell him of his possible role in the TV talent-show first-hand.
“I found out on the Internet like the rest of the world,” Perry told the Boston Herald.
“There was an Aerosmith afterparty at Studio 54 after the Vegas show – which none of us in the band knew anything about – and he [Tyler] said some stuff there. I mean, this is no small thing.”
Tyler told reporters that his future plans included “recording an album and [I’m] probably going to be a judge on American Idol.”
He also said: “I’m doing it. What do you think? I’m doing it.”
When Perry confronted Tyler about the American Idol rumour, the singer said he was instructed not to discuss it.
“I mean, after working with me for 40 years, he couldn’t tell me about this,” Perry said. “Why so secretive? We’re told it’s a done deal. If Steven is committed to a TV show, that kind of affects the rest of us. We’d like to plan our lives, ya know?”
However, it appears Perry isn’t talking for everyone in the band. Drummer Joey Kramer has told Billboard.com:
“We’ve been talking about it the last couple of days, and it’s made me come to realize what a positive impact it could have for Aerosmith. The possibilities are kind of infinite with something like that happening, us being exposed to a whole new generation of people. So we’ll see what happens. It should be interesting.”
Hmm, ticket sales must have slowed. Seriously, the respect I had for these guys is just gone. I hope they do split up, go bankrupt and realise how much they screwed over dedicated fans. Maybe then they’ll reunite and tour with prices that aren’t a spit in the eye to their loyal supporters.
Yawn!! Years ago I would have been mortified, but they have haven’t released a decent album since Pump, so I couldn’t care less.
It’s time to kick Steven out; as much as it hurts telling this he is destroying every last bit of the Aerosmith. The other guys are willing and ready to record a new album of original material and to tour again and it definitely looks like Steven has different projects!
And there I was, assuming it was Tyler’s GHASTLY stage clothes that had annoyed Perry.

Well, pleased I saw them at Download and then the 02 (even if they sent me to sleep both nights) as I’m now beyond caring. Retire / split up / feck off – just go away…

No new material since 2001, why are these guys getting so much press? Don’t get me wrong, “Rocks” and “Toys” are amongst my favorite albums of all-time, but enough is enough. These guys are a joke now.
So, is this just the latest episode in the 40 – year soap opera of Aerosmith, or are they finally facing their final curtain? When the whole world hears of Tyler’s intentions before his own band-mates hear about them – intentions that have a direct influence on his band-mates lives – then the band is basically no longer a band, it’s a fuckin’ charade. I actually thought that they’d turned the corner – I saw ‘em at Download & at the O2 & they were shit-hot, but it appears that any communication between Tyler & the others was extremely short-lived. With this most recent tour, we were led to believe that the band were back in the saddle & that they meant business. Looks like it was just business! Tyler has taken the piss out of both his band and his fans by keeping his American Idol cards so close to his chest, & it leaves a nasty taste. Guys, get a new singer by all means, but DON’T call yourselves Aerosmith.

I agree with Gaf Stafford. The guys should start another project, a band that wouldn´t be Aerosmith. It worked with Jimmy Page: if it wasn´t for this solo project with David Coverdale – which was great, by the way – Robert Plant wouldn´t realize he needs Page and then reunite with Page at Page and Plant.
Maybe the same medication works with Tyler. Leave the man alone for a while and soon he´ll realize he´s nothing without Aerosmith.

* Their version of the Spider Man theme tune in 2002 (which had quite a distinctive arrangement)
* Oh, Yeah! Ultimate Aerosmith Hits! – 2 bonus tracks in 2002
* “Lizard Love” – for the Rugrats Go Wild soundtrack in 2003
* Honkin’ On Bobo – 11 cover songs, 1 original composition in 2004
* Steven Tyler & Joe Perry covered “I’m a King Bee” for a soundtrack of some sort in 2004
* Devil’s Got A New Disguise: The Very Best of Aerosmith – 2 bonus tracks in 2006
* 7 classic Aerosmith songs were re-recorded by the band in 2008 for Guitar Hero: Aerosmith
Even if you ignore the covers/re-recordings, there’s 2 songs in 2002, a song in 2003, a song in 2004, 2 songs in 2006. They’ve totalled an album of material just spread out.

I am so sick of this band!!! Ive been a fan for years but the pathetic soap opera with Tyler being replaced, then the insulting ticket prices for a greatest hits set and now THIS???!!!!!!!!!! Everybody needs to accept its over, Tyler obviously wants to do his own thing so let him. The rest of the band can get a new singer, change the name and just go back to being a rock’n'roll band. It may never be as good as the old Aerosmith, but at least the will be free of this mess. Anything is better than Aerosmith getting their exposure on friggin American idol!!!!!!!!!!

Not in the same league as whitesnake… are you out of your f%$@#@# mind?! Take a look at the album sales honey. Steven Tyler is cross-generational. People ages from 15 to 70 love his music. My 17 year old cousin has everything Steven has made. Not Joe Perry’s wannabe bull-s%#$. My 58 year old mother loves Steven Tyler. I, a woman in my early 30’s, love Steven Tyler. Steven Tyler is Aerosmith and I know no one who would be bothered going to the joe perry project. I also do not know any of today’s teenagers who even know who Whitesnake is. I mean seriously what a stupid thing to say. You may like them better and that is fine, but to say they are even on the same level much less better is just dumb. The album sales speak for itself. Aerosmith is one of the longest lasting bands outside of the Rolling Stones. They have and continue to make music with some of the biggest legends in the music making industry. People like yourselves just have to have someone to hate on and since Steven is in the limelight he is a convenient target. Get a life and stop hating because it just makes you look pathetic. Aerosmith is a legend and will always be a legend and the only reason that is so is because of Steven Tyler. A good portion of people have never even heard of joe perry or your precious whitesnake.
I’d further like to add that I concur with the joe perry hater. He gives Steven crap about drug problems but you know what they got clean around the same time. They didn’t call them the toxic twins because perry was a choir boy. Steven got back on drugs after surgery and suprise a person with a drug problem fell off the wagon when drugs were reintroduced to him. He pulled himself back together, drug addiction is a life long struggle. One addict should not be so quick to point fingers at another; furthermore, Steven Tyler has nothing but nice things to say about joe, however he feels he never knocks him to the media. joe has no class he is just a hater because he has never been the front man. He is not what gave the band their notability and he never will be.
