Spinal Tap Announce UK Date

Spinal Tap are back and will celebrate with a ‘One Night Only’ World Tour. Yeah, you did read that correctly.

Spinal Tap have announced a show at Wembley Arena on June 30th, being billed as a one-night world tour. The legendary 3-piece (and a drummer whose life will be no doubt be in danger) play the show to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of their legendary documentary, or rockumentary if you will, ‘This Is Spinal Tap’.

Tickets will go on sale this Thursday (April 9th) at 9am and cost £50, £47.50 and £42 but Classic Rock web-users can get their hands on the best seats in the house via our exclusive pre-sale at 9am on Wednesday (April 8th). More details to follow tomorrow!

The practical question to raise at this point would surely be, are they going to play Stonehenge that night?

In addition to the return of Tap, The Folksmen (subject of the mockumentary A Mighty Wind) will serve as support on this one-night world tour.

How about one night in Oz!

Well I was a little worried when they diversified into their ‘experimental’ stage but nice to see that this old rock band who have played such iconic venues as The Enormodome and have rubbed shoulders with Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple (probably in dodgy South East London Pubs in the 60s) are still kicking.

I wait with baited breath to see the sheer-scale of the Stonehenge set and I hope they play a few off Shark Sandwich. Perhaps they will have a piano moment where we can finally hear that fantastic love ballad of the 80s, ‘Lick my Love Pump’?

Aye I bet Led Zeppelin are worried now, this could lead to the O2 I reckon… hope the equipment can cope with ‘Tufnell 11′ settings – awesome!

Lets be honest here the joke began and ended with the Spinal Tap film. This strikes me as being yet another stretch it till it breaks moment. Yes i do have a sense of humour and think the film is excellent, but there comes a time when someone has to say enough and in the words of The Beatles ‘Let it Be’.

Maybe get ‘Hot Leg’ and some other shi..really good bands to support – that would be an awesome target, er, I mean gig…

We all know Spinal Tap’s a joke thing but the biggest joke here’s the ticket prices. Fifty quid? If it’s for charity then fair play. If not, are people really gonna pay that?

Let’s hope we see a Bad News re-uinion soon!

£50? Their hoping.

They may be a joke but their better than Oasis

if this was april 1st I could believe it! I agree with Kriss Lane- what planet are these lot on – £50 for a joke band? save your money and see a proper band reforming like mott the hoople.

“but these go to 11…”

I would definitely recommend that those of you with reservations about paying up to £50 to see Tap would bear in mind that you would primarily be paying to see a comedy performance by a group of esteemed Hollywood actors.
Shearer, Guest, McKean et al will be donning wigs and make up to poke fun at both the Greenwich Village folk scene of the ’60s and the redundant heavy rock behemoths who clung onto the turn of the ’80s metal scene like bad farts in the wind.
Whether or not it will be any good is another question and will obviously be down to their performance on the night. Either way, you can’t knock their spot-on parodies on celluloid. Check out their more recent Tinseltown assassination ‘For Your Consideration’ for further proof of their cynically acidic powers.

ONE NIGHT! And a Tuesday and all. Bah. I’m never gonna get all the way down there and back during the week. At least Maiden did it on a Saturday.
