Slayer tell fans: Ignore hate sect at Hanneman memorial
Slayer have called on fans to ignore a hate sect who hope to sabotage a public memorial to late guitarist Jeff Hanneman.
But leading hatemongers the Westboro Baptist Church have said they’ll be in attendance with the aim of disrupting the celebration of Hanneman’s life and achievements.
The organisation, known for slogans including “God Hates Fags” and “You’re Going To Hell,” enraged rock fans by staging a demonstration near the funeral of Ronnie James Dio in 2010. The following year the Foo Fighters played them at their own game by performing a song in their honour on the back of a truck as the sect tried to ruin a concert.
But Slayer have asked for fans to behave with dignity in the face of hate.
The band say in a statement: “Want to really piss of the Westboro Baptist Church at Jeff’s celebration? Do exactly what Slayer members and family are going to do – totally ignore them.
“They don’t exist. Then come inside and celebrate Jeff’s life with us.”
