Shinedown Man Denies Lip Synching Allegations
Shinedown vocalist Brent Smith has shot down web rumours that he has been miming onstage to the more demanding parts of the Floridian band’s live show during a visit to Europe back in January.
Fans on at least one internet message board had speculated that Smith was cheating a little after his voice began to suffer from the rigours of a long tour.
“What was being said was absolutely untrue, but it’s something that’s haunted me for a couple of years,” he told Classic Rock’s Dave Ling. “There will always be one guy in the audience that dissects every single frame of what goes on in front of him. They can’t wait to get home and go online to post about me singing flat or whatever, or remark that my voice, which might be bad at the beginning but ‘mysteriously’ improves towards the end of the show.”
“I’ve got news for that guy; I’m (only) human,” continues Smith. “When we were in Europe, the band was about 100 shows into a tour. I’m not lip-synching, everything you hear is me. It will be different from night to night, that’s what makes it a live show. Another thing to consider is that my front-of-house engineer might not be having a good night, either. Don’t forget that he’s human as well. I try not to dwell upon the one guy, or girl, that will over-analyse things or make those kind of stupid accusations, the other ninety-nine per cent that have enjoyed the show are what I really care about.”
