Fired again: Scott Weiland

Scott Weiland had been fired by Stone Temple Pilots, the band have confirmed.

A brief statement reports they have “officially terminated” his contract, after he rejoined them following his sacking from Velvet Revolver in 2008.

The news comes two months after his ex-colleague Slash said he’d heard the move had already been made.

In December the guitarist was asked why Weiland had been talking up a VR reunion, and replied: “That’s because he got fired from STP.”

VR reunited in 2012 for a one-off charity concert and Weiland later claimed a full reunion was on the cards, saying: “We’re sorting through things. We want to start writing for some big film opportunities that have come our way, and try to set things up the way we set things up when we initially got together. I think it’s the perfect time.”

But Slash told Classic Rock: “I think he’s trying to pull off that trick of trying to get something else going on, and we’re not buying it. The door’s shut on this side and it’s probably shut on that side too, so he’s on his own. And he deserves it too.”

The vocalist, whose personal problems caused STP to split in 2002 before their 2008 regrouping, is concentrating on a tour with his solo band the Wildabouts, in which he’ll perform tracks from the first two STP albums, Core and Purple.
