Is Scott Weiland using backing tracks on the current Stone Temple Pilots tour?
The singer’s being accused of this after tumbling off the stage at a show in Cincinnati – yet he never missed a note!
See what you think. Check out the incident here. He falls about 90 seconds into the video clip.

scott weiland is SHIT!!!
His grunge crap unmelodic voice have polluted the world of music for too long!!!
Let’s bring back REAL vocalist in the vein of Plant-Perry-Coverdale-Mercury etc….
The best modern vocalists are in Work Of Art- W.E.T. and H.E.A.T !!
Quite like Marco’s response, Work of art and H.E.A.T are both stunning.
I for one hate Scott Weiland..but were you saying grunge is crap?
Oh you missed Paul Rodgers off
ha ha this is great news, mime to backing vocal tracks and perform stunts live on stage with no impediment of sound quality, messrs Elliot, Hunter, Perry and Tyler take note – this is the way forward, conduct stage antics without hindering sound quality, thank god for technology! For example Ted Nugent could hunt wild boars on stage and still “sing” – tlaking of wild bores…..
They were bloody terrible at Download, probably cos Scott Weiland was either off his face on Drugs, or absolutely Steamin’. ut it must be from tapes, unless he can sing whilst falling.
Typical comments from Classic Rock readers. Lip synching? NO. There’s been plenty of bad sounding shows out there. This, was a night when he was on. STP ROCKS
Huh!? I thought he really could sing. But that sounded like backing tracks to me. I just wonder how many acts do this these days? You all have heard the rumours… (and I don’t mean Britney Spears).
having been lucky enough to have seen velvet revolver 5 times – from their first uk show to one of their last (wolves 2008), and stp a couple of times (nottingham 2001 & download), i can honestly say – although this may fall on deaf ears – that mr weiland, to me, and a hell of a lot of people, is a rock star. end of. and a great one at that! aren’t they all supposed to be prima donnas, think the sun shines out of their asses, egotistical idiots, and so on… as were many rock stars of the 70’s? he’s got a cracking voice – and the band are a class act. ed, you said what i thought – typical classic rock readers. i have read classic rock for many years, but for some reason, you have a thing against mr weiland and co. odd. everyone has an opinion, however, it always seems biased.
Marco, are you implying grunge had no good singers?! Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell not to mention Alice in Chains had rock’s greatest vocal harmonies with Layne Stayley and Jerry Cantrell.
@Ed – I dont know what you mean about “typical” comments, seems to me like a bunch of guys who want to express an opinion, as invited by the article. You are entitled to yours and they to theirs. I have see Mr Weiland live on several occasions and when he is good he is very good…..but on this evidence there is clearly some jiggery pokery going on. Peace out x
he was not upto weiland quality at brixton the rest of stp were, he looked slow and did not sing as he normally would
at brighton with velvet revolver he was a different animal slim natural and full of charmisa and attitude
Steve Tyler was definitely using lip synch during the Pump tour in ‘89. Just when lyrics overlapped lyrics but it was definitely there!
I agree with the previous post; I saw Weiland deliver an unbelievably awesome performance in Calgary during the first VR tour about 5 years ago. When this guy is “on”, he’s terrific to watch and listen to. Too bad he’s fallen to these depths.
Saaid, the singers you mentioned were good enough but, please, don’t even try to include in that category scott weiland and kurt cobain!
grunge was the perfect anti-rock with its depressed sound ,no solos and grasp vocals.
Anyway they did try to destroy rock but they FAILED.
Nowadays grunge is dead (as well as all by-products of rock like numetal-rapmetal-crossover etc..)and arenas are filled with REAL rock.
The test of times don’t lie.
This is totally 100% miming. How can you fall and keep singing? For one thing your hard-wired biological reactions would take over unless you’re some kind of yoga master. Fraud. Pity he didn’t break his neck. Twat.
