Scorpions’ Jabs hails Nickelback
For many rock fans, Nickelback is the band they love to hate – but Scorpions guitarist Matthias Jabs, for one, believes the Canadian outfit are comparable to AC/DC and Iron Maiden.
Chad Kroeger’s squad have a lively relationship with their haters. In 2011 over 55,000 objected to the band’s appearance at a Detroit NFL game. A recent Twitter war saw them replying to angry messages with sarcastic responses. There’s even a website called Nickelback Haters Unite.
But Jabs tells The Big DC: “For me, they are one of the really great rock bands that came out after the older generation, like the Scorpions, AC/DC, Iron Maiden – all those.
“I really like what they’re doing. They’re powerful, they have great songs, and they’re really my favourite band from today.”
The Scorps are travelling the world on a farewell tour that started in 2010 and has kept going by popular demand. As a result Jabs recently explained they’d changed their minds about splitting; but they’re not planning to hit the road again in the future.
Asked what he’ll do when the tour finally ends, the guitarist says: “I think I will take a break first, then try to find out what I really wanna do.
“For 34 years there has always been somebody telling us what to do. This will be the first time in my life I have nobody coming up with a new plan. This might be boring, but maybe it’s also refreshing and I can find something that I really love to do.
“I don’t want to think about it too much at the moment, because it’s basically next year and then I find out. I will definitely make music, that’s for sure.”
