Rumour Of The Week: Hagar To Join Aerosmith
Is Sammy Hagar going to replace Steven Tyler as Aerosmith’s frontman?
Earlier this week Classic Rock heard the news that the Chickenfoot (and former Montrose/Van Halen) singer had agreed to sing with the Boston band on a forthcoming world tour.
A source told us:
“The idea is for Sammy and Aerosmith to rake in big bucks on the road while leaving Steven Tyler to sort out his problems. Then Tyler would return to the band in a couple of years’ time.”
Hagar, we reckon, is one of the few singers who could handle Tyler’s scat singing style and idiosyncratic lyrics. So the story made a strange kind of sense.
We contacted Hagar’s manager, John Carter, and told him we had it on good authority that Sammy was joining Aerosmith.
Carter reponded: “Good authority must mean The Enquirer because his Led Zep gig conflicts with the Aerosmith job.
“Seriously, Sam is very happy to be going into the studio with Chickenfoot to start the second album in April.”
The Aerosmith camp declined to comment.
As opposed to some of the other rumours banded about, this one I could handle. However, I’m sure the lawyers would have something to say about it.

While that might be an interesting combination, I like Chickenfoot too much for Sammy to get diverted from working on a second album to front Aerosmith.

At least it would get him out of Chickenfoot – the most over-rated band around at the moment.

Aerojoeperrysmith need a new, unknown to replace tyler (if at all).
I think that he would fit the bill quite nicely. But I would be worried about what would happen to Chicken foot.
Tam, Sammy would be wasted with this never had it in the first place outfit, if music was football, Zeppelin would be Real Madrid, and aerosmith would be Swindon town reserves.

The obvious choice if Aerosmith were to continue to tour while Tyler is on hiatus, would be Glenn Hughes !

this whole debate and rumourmongering is complete bollox!!…if Tyler is to be replaced it’s not Aerosmith…so change the band’s name…Aerosmith IS Tyler&Perry….It’d be like the stones touring without jagger….wouln’t be the same.
Sammy,don’t do it. No reason to leave the FOOT when you guys are the best band in the world right now.Seen you since Montrose days and the Foot 3 times last year. I saw them live. Sammy would do a great job for Aerosmith and could sing Tyler under the table but I can’t wait for the new chickenfoot so I hope it’s not true.
