Ronnie James Dio: Latest Update
Wendy Dio has issued an update on the condition of Ronnie James Dio as he continues his battle against stomach cancer – and the good news is that the iconic vocalist is apparently winning the struggle.
Here’s the update in full:
“Well, now it has been Ronnie’s seventh chemo, another cat scan and another endoscopy, and the results are good – the main tumour has shrunk considerably, and our visits to Houston are now every three weeks instead of every two weeks.
“Ronnie and Vinny (Appice) went down to the studio to have a listen and see how the (Heaven & Hell) DVD is coming along, NOT to overdub anything as presumed by Hoss2112 or Shattered 73 on the Blabbermouth rants. I was very annoyed to read these comments, and if they were truly fans of Ronnie’s, they would know #1) that Ronnie is a SINGER and does not need to overdub a live show, and #2) He would never cheat his fans by overdubbing a Live DVD. I will not be showing these comments to Ronnie, as I know they would hurt and upset him as they did me. He has been going to the REHEARSAL studio to sing, not the recording studio!
“Ronnie’s cousin Rock (from The Rods, who used to be in Elf with him) flew in from New York to visit Ronnie for a week and they enjoyed spending some time together, going to the movies and taking walks, and Ronnie and Rock went to the studio to master Rock’s new album, which Ronnie sings a track on. And Craig Goldy will be coming over to start writing new songs with Ronnie next week. It will be great to see him again, as he has been away touring with the British band Budgie.

This is good news. All one can do is trust in the medical staff treating Ronnie and in hope.

Wonderful news. He’s an absolute gentleman … and has always had one of the most powerful voices in the business. The first time I ever saw him live, with Rainbow, he absolutely blew me away. Seriously.

Gotta say I was never a huge fan (though MANY friends told me I was crazy!) but lately I have been checking out stuff I may have missed first time around and I have to say, the Sabbath milestones, Heaven & Hell and Mob Rules (and the storming new H & H slab!) have convinced me that I better start catching up on Ronnie’s work! I wish you all the very best Ronnie and hope your progress continues so that this old rocker can finally get the chance to check out your live shenanigans for the first time! Get well soon and never stop rocking.
I am so glad Ronnie is Fighting to win agaist this awful awful thing . My father had stomach cancer and he fought a long hard battle . I lost him in March of 09′ so Keep up the good work Ronnie . Fight hard you can Win !! Thoughts and Prayers are with you Always . Vickie
