Jagger jokes over Stones’ £100,000 fine

Rolling Stones in London

Guest spot: Mick Taylor with the Stones

Mick Jagger last night laughed off the Rolling Stones’ £100,000 fine for breaking curfew at their O2 Arena show in London on Sunday.

Speaking to the crowd at their second 50th anniversary concert in the same venue, the singer said the six-figure sum amounted to the price of ten tickets.

The Stones were penalised for running past time after having started late at the weekend, forcing them to miss out (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction from their 50 And Counting set.

Jagger told fans: “We’re more relaxed tonight. We’ll get to play the whole thing. We had to pay £100,000 because we went on too long. That’s like… ten seats!”

Former band members BIll Wyman and Mick Taylor once again made appearances – see a fan-shot clip of Taylor’s guest spot below. Eric Clapton took the stage for Champagne And Reefer while Florence Welch of Florence And The Machine sang on Gimme Shelter.

Jagger made another reference to the band’s high ticket prices after they performed Beatles track I Wanna Be Your Man, which, until Sunday, they hadn’t played since 1964.

He said: “Blimey, that’s an old song. Back then, the price of a pint of milk was three pence, the price of a loaf of bread was sixpence and the price of a concert ticket was – I’d better not go there.”
